apache timeout

Hi. We are running a webserver through 256k adsl on a PII 300 with 128Mb RAM. At certain peak times, our visitors get timeout messages. From /var/log/httpd it seems to happen when requests are very close to each other. Anything more frequent than one request a minute seems to produce the timeout. Is there anything I can tweak Apache with or is this time to upgrade the hardware. If so, what do I buy first, bandwidth, ram or WHY. SuSE 8.0 apt-gett'd yesterday. Thanks, Steve.

php issues

Greetings; Im trying to migrate a rh 6.2 release httpd.conf file to 8.0 apache 1.3 setup.Ive got most of it covered but there are a few issues that I am not getting......as follows: ie: <IfModule mod_php4.c> php_value include_path '/usr/local/apache/php:.' php_value auto_prepend_file /usr/local/apache/php/prepend.php3 php_flag magic_quotes_gpc Off php_flag track_vars On </IfModule> There are two issues here. One php3 is not installed as this should be convered by php4 adequately but this raises the issues as so what variables should be entered into the module. /usr/local/apache obviousely does not exist. If someone could point me to a url or provide comment it would be appreciated. /ch

Zaurus-Sync with linux

I have my sync in Zaurus working with Suse 8.0/Qtopia 1.6. One glitch is that to make it work I have to run these two lines in a shell as root. ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 up route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0 Where can I add these lines in Suse to automate the procedure? Do you have the usb-storage module loaded? type lsmod at a command prompt. You should see a list of modules, and hopefully one is usb-storage. If it's not there then as root modprobe usb-storage will load it for you. Now mount your drive - I find that I don't need the vfat filesystem type set, and leave it as auto, i.e. mount /dev/sda1 /media/camera Hope that helps. YaST config

Hi people, I'm using SuSE 8.0 which I installed via FTP from a machine on my LAN. To do this I had to use a username and password to log on to the FTP server. I'd like to change the "source of installation" to a public FTP server. However, even though I can change the server address in YaST, I cannot disable the username and password. Obviously I need to be able to use an anonymous login, but YaST still sends the username and password from my original install causing the login to fail Can anybody tell me where YaST is picking the username and password info up from? I've tried poking around, but I can't find it. Cheers! sjb

dialin backup for cableconnection

Hi all, I have recently been doing a transfer from a dilain internet connection to a cable connection, which all went fine. Now I have a Cisco ISDN router here, which I want to set up for backup: if the cable connection fails for whatever reason, this router will go dial in, so the network still can reach the outer world. How do I configure this? Has somebody done this before (I'm quite sure the answer is yes;-), can you point me to some info on the net?
