Kmail questions

Looking at the website of kmail, I read that the current version of Kmail is 1.4.1, and comes as part of KDE 3.0., not seperate. My Kmail version is 1.4, and it is using KDE3.0.1, so I don't understand why I don't have the Kmail1.4.1 version. I am running SuSE8.0 When I received email in plain text or HTML with attachments, it works OK. However receiving MS Rich Text emails with an attachment, it shows up with the text of the email and a question mark icon with the name Attachment: 1 I am not able to extract the pdf file that I know is in this attachment. I have forwarded the email from Kmail to a Windows Box with Outlook98, and it arrived as if it was never forwarded, with the attachment and all. Is there a way to extract the attachment? Do I need to decode it, and how do I do that? -- Frits J. Wüthrich (Sent with Kmail)

Staroffice

Hi, I know I've seen several mails about staroffice, but I wasn't interested at the time. Now, after managed to install SuSE and Staroffice, I have some reflections. The fonts in Staroffice are terrible. The characters are floating in into each other. The pointer is far in the middle of the last word. Anybody experienced this, and perhaps have a solution? And is it a must to registrate the staroffice - I've installed it from the SuSE 8.0 pro CD. Or will it cease to work after some time if I don't registerate it? Thanks in advance, Thomas

Mounting USB CD-RW

I purchased a Yamaha CD-RW (CRW3200UX) which is connected to USB 2.0. Using KonCD I can burn CDs. How do I mount it so I can read what I burnt? It's better than swapping it out and into my other CD. Thanks!

Impossible postfix

Hi, HAving spent many a ltae evenings I am beginning to give up on postfix. I have a small network at home and want to send mail from the network to the outside world. I have a permanent internet connections. I have specified in the main.cf file correct domain name, correct network parameters etc..., and I can query postfix on the server and get it to send emails...what I can't do is send a mail with Kmail .. the mail log shows as far as I can see that postfix sees Kmails attenpt to email but refuses the connection. Does anyone have any idea why postfix refuses the connection...is there something that should be changed in the master.cf file? Thomas

cannot fsck because root is not read only

During the boot sequence I see the following message on screen. ERROR ! cannot fsck because root is not read only. This started afer using mkinit or mk_init following the removal of a NIC module. That was fixed but since then the ERROR message occurs. How should I restore the normal fsck after 20 boots. /dev/hda5 is the root What is the correct command to make root read only at boot time and restore the normal operation? -- John

YOU fix

Hi All Does anyone know of a quick fix for YOU. I think I must have removed something that I was not suppose to. In Control Center I get the Yast2 modules showing. After I enter the administrator's password. Everything goes blank as it does when it is finished. Checking the logs I see the following: 2002-06-28 12:24:48 <1> gladys(9754) [liby2] genericfrontend.cc(main):96 Launched YaST2 component 'y2base' 2002-06-28 12:24:48 <3> gladys(9754) [liby2] genericfrontend.cc(main):233 No such server module qt Any help or advice would be appreciated. SuSE 8.0: Yast2 LVM bug report

Since I don't know of any other way to report a bug to SuSE (this is not a support request), I will publish it here. When trying to add a new physical volume to an existing volume group via the YAST2 interface, the attempt fails with an error message complaining that vgextend cannot be found. As a matter of fact vgextend is installed in /sbin. Running 'vgextend vg /dev/hdc1' from the command line works just fine. Avi -- Avi Schwartz Avi(a)CFFtechnologies.com

ethernet

Hi have an ? about two ethernet cards as i just got the other day an cable modem setup here and now the ethernet card in that machine is use for the cable modem so i guess i need to add another card to that machine so it can talk to the other card in the other box so the second card in this box will be eth1 if i am right and the one card in the other box eth0 so am i right when i say the routing will be the same just that the one from eth0 will now point to eth1 instaed of the eth0 it use to be before it became in use by the cable modem am i right in my thinking before i go and try this thanks in advance Bob
