firewall configuration

hello i have been ising firewall2 on suse 7.3 for a while now but somehow im boggled with a minor issue. that is ive configure in route:forward to allow ICMP from our internal network to any destination thus PING works, but traceroute does not! any ideas on what im forgetting here?? regards O.

Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold

I am currently using a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold ISA sound card in my system and this seems to be the only problem I have in an otherwise great SuSE installation. Previously I had a Sound Blaster Vibra 16 ISA card that was detected and installed with no trouble. The motherboard died and when I replaced it I also switched to the AWE64 and reinstalled SuSE. I suppose that it could also be a problem with the new motherboard and not because of the AWE64 but I don't know what to do at this point. Does anyone use the AWE64 Gold sound card? Any suggestions to get this to work? Damon Register

Who is online at my home page???

I have a special question: I want to know how many people are at that moment accessing my home page (only one certain one), and would make about this a counter. I assume to that people stay on a page for 1 minute, if no refresh comes from this page, than the user is gone. How can I do that? Or is another way to see that? (maybe something like a mini vnc server with a iframe function in the home page, whereby I can see the active connection to the server ???? Just want to say, it does not matter how I can solve it, I just want to know how many people read the page at the same time) bye Ronald

Gnome2 and 7.3 - Experiences?

Hey, Anyone else using SuSE 7.3 used the Gnome2 RPMs from SuSE FTP yet? If so, have you had any serious problems? (I don't mean general Gnome bugs that should be reported to the Gnome makers, but installation-related problems.) I haven't gotten it to work yet. I installed all the base and app RPMs (except Mozilla - already had 1.1a installed), set up a gnome2 login on KDM... Tried going into Gnome2 and all I'd get is the black and white X screen. And the menu bar on Mozilla "disappeared". Technically it's still there, but there's no actual menu on it. I'm believing this to be caused by installing Gnome over Gnome and such. I had 1.4 installed, and installed the first release candidate as well. Now installing the real Gnome2 apparently made my system drunk and disorderly. ;-) Uninstalling every single RPM that's Gnome or Gnome-related now, and then will try installing Gnome2 again without 1.4 or any leftover release candidate programs. Just wondering if anyone else (using SuSE 7.3) has had problems as well. install problems on older proliant

I have an older proliant 1500 all scsi system and I need to get the symbios scsi module loaded at boot time to do the install off the cd. Can anyone supply me with some information on how to do this. I have been trying to use the cd image to work around a problem with booting from the disks. The problem I have with the disks is that after the the first module disk is loaded I get a panic with can't mount "" please specify a valid ... I've tried specifying /dev/ram assuming the root filesystem is loaded into ramdisk with no luck i'm currently using the parameters "manual mem=96M" I need the memory parameter for the older esia bus machines Any help or suggestions appreciated Andrew

Bad Blocks Part II

A different question on BAD BLOCKS is: Can I somehow mark these blocks valid again, so that they get used by OS again? Badblocks

I just ran fsck.ext2 on a defective partition which resulted in badblocks telling me that there are 10 bad blocks. Now, with that information I would like to know WHERE these 10 bad blocks are (e.g. what cluster, which cylinder a.s.f.) Is there any way to get that info out of my PC?
