Gnome2 update and a few problems

Hey all, I just updated to the gnome2 packages form ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplimentary/GNOME2/update_for_8.0 and after installing the RPMs from base and applications I get Executing /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.gconf2... /opt/gnome2/bin/gconftool-2: relocation error: /opt/gnome2/lib/libgconf-2.so.4: undefined symbol: ORBit_small_flags on SuSEconfig /opt/gnome2/bin/gnome-session: relocation error: /opt/gnome2/lib/libbonobo-activation.so.4: undefined symbol: ORBit_small_flags on start of gnome2 ./nautilus: relocation error: ./nautilus: undefined symbol: ORBit_small_flags on start of nautilus /usr/bin/galeon-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtkembedmoz.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory on start of galeon What could be the cause of this? Could the ORBit2 RPM be bad? could the ORBit libs be interfearing with ORBit2 Libs? and is there a SuSE update for Galeon and Mozilla 1.x ? Another ssh problem (*not* openssh!)

I connect to another system running ssh: $ ssh -V ssh: SSH Secure Shell 3.2.0 (non-commercial version) on i686-pc-linux-gnu This is a new version of ssh just installed today by the sysadmin on that system. Since that was installed, I have trouble logging in to that system from My SuSE system running the following version of openssh: > ssh -V OpenSSH_3.0.2p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090603f I can actually log in, but their server refuses to recognize my key and forces me to enter my account's password. The have been working on this for a few hours and can'tm resolve it. Flat-panel displays with SuSE 8

Any successes, failures, useful tips from people who have used flat-panel displays with SuSE 8? Any brands/models to avoid? They're still too expensive, but my resistance is fading... :-) and I'd like to avoid a costly mistake. Thank you. 8.0 + latex beta = muttprint foobarred.

Before I go off and do something stupid..like install the latex pkgs from 7.3 on my 8.0 workstation at work. Help! Postfix and network problems

I'm having problems with Postfix....and would appreciate any help. I have tried opening smtp and pop prots using inetd, but when I try to connect to the mail server I receive an error stating that the email client cannot connect to the mail server......is this a problem with the inetd services or a problem with postfix....? ... I have not done any other configurating other than usin YAST2 and setting the hostname for the mailserver. not much info for you all, but a beginning perhaps Thomas

SuSE8.0 + Reiserfs + 2.4.17 Kernel = @#$@#%@$

I tried every conbination everything works 'cept for the above stated. The initial reason I needed a 2.4.17 Kernel was to be able to include pptp filtering in my firewall which only seems to work with this kernel or lower. Anyone with information contrary to this I would love to hear it. changing install dir from cd to ftp fails

shalom, i am getting with yast/you or by manually making mount -o ro ftp.suse.com:/pub/suse/current ...the message: "Impossible to access teh source media. mount: RPC: Portmapper failure - RPC: cannot recieve" The inetd is ON and with a browser or an ftp program i can access ftp directorys well. What am i doing wrong? cu andi

To tell you the truth, I was sitting on my SuSE 8 for a while now, afraid to try to install it on my Dual Athlon machine. Today I decided to take the plunge. I still cannot believe how smooth the installation (new installation, not an update) was. It recognized all my SCSI and IDE drives. Allowed me to create the regular and LVM partitions, recognized my Ethernet cards, Geforce 3 video and my Xerox printer. Everything was set up correctly and I was up and running in no time. What's wrong with the aims group archive?

I wanted to look at an e-mail from last month, so I went to the aims group archive (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=suse-linux-e) They don't have any messages for this list from May 11, 2002 - May 30, 2002 Also, could someone tell me where the other archive is, I don't have it bookmarked. I've had a look at tkrat, but I get a little annoyed when 'sales litrature' describes as 'unique to them' things that I have been doing for years in other packages. I've not ruled it out, but I suspect it will have some of the same problems I would like to remove. Over the last few months, I have moved all of my documentation management to a Linux machine as the Windows XP machine was simply a pain with all it's differences ( I might even kill MSDN membership this year <g> ). Since I was having to remember to do things differently between XP and the rest of the system, I decided the differences may as well be practical, i.e KDE3. Having taken the plunge, I am very happy with what I am finding. Open Office fills the gap to Windows nicely, and I am reliably informed that the CD will plug the remaining gaps. So the next step is to move my eMail database from Netscape 4.7x. I've done this once - to Netscape 6.0 - and it lasted 4 hours <g> Netscape 6 eMail STILL has some way to go to restore all of the 4.7x facilities. SO the requirements. glimpse sounds nice since I would like to dump the lots of eMails in one file approach and return to individual files in standard directories. Then even grep could be used to search. So where is it hidden. The first problem is how do I get the existing archive into a usable format? The second is which client? Just to add to the complexity I currently use a windows package called VPOP so my wife and kids eMails are split off first, then I use Wingate for shared internet access. I am in a position where I would be happy to dump the W2k internet server in favour of a Linux machine - once I can sort out this area. Any suggestions.
