Hi Basil, Just read the posts on your problem and while I don't have an answer I thought you might like to know my 7.3 with reiserfs is also accessing every 5 seconds which it wasn't doing with such regularity with ext2. But I think I can live with it here for the extra speed I get from reiser, although it would be nice to know why. Mike Ayers

Initrc & initial ramdisk size.

I'm trying to set up a 2.4.17 kernel (SuSE8.0) to my understanding one has to run mkinitrc in order to creat a initrc ram disk to load my reiserfs module. I did this but I get a kmod failure to load the module on boot. Thus a kernel panic. I'm wondering if this has to do with my initial ram disk size which is set to defaul 4096. would this perhaps be the reason it wont load the module ? Overburning in SuSE 8.0

I've just purchased a CDRW with the specific purpose of overburning. Has anyone else done this? What program did you use, and with what options? I tried xcdroast and it instructs me to use the overburn option in cdrecord. Is it possible to do that, or should I try koncd? Any thoughts anyone? Thanks Eddie

Secret software

Does anyone else ever get that warm feeling when they discover a bit of software that solves a problem for them so *beautifully*? Someone just introduced me to x2x, which has been sitting on my SuSE disks, unknown, unused and unloved, for months. I've been using it all of 10 minutes and already can't imagine life without it. :o) -- 3:16pm up 46 days, 7:23, 1 user, load average: 0.07, 0.05, 0.01

Strange problem with Inspiron 8100 and SuSE 8.0

I have a very strange problem, not a major one, just an irritation. Have a Dell Inspiron 8100 dual boot with SuSE 8.0 and Win2k and am using a IBM USB keyboard. If I start up in the monings, the Dell startup screen showing the boot process hangs until I hit a key one the keyboard, either the IBM or the built-in keyboard. It will then go into Lilo. If I reboot without shutting down the machine, this does not occur. Has anyone else experience this problem? Art

Much too obvious

Hello SuSE folk; Too obvious for me I guess. Must be going right over my head. Same topic different thread. SuSE 8.0 Still trying to get my apps, Konq, Kmail, FTP client, etc. to run once I am connected to my ISP. KPPP is up and running and connected - As a user when I try to connect any of these apps I get the message....Host "YourISP" unknown.. When I am running as root I can get Konq to connect. (Don't have the other apps as root) WHAT am I missing here? Please help...... Bob S.
