unable to mount root, using install disks

Using the bootdisk and modules1 yeilds me with "unable to mount root fs" while I'm trying to install suse 8.0 Have tried root=/dev/fd0 root=/dev/ram root=/dev/initrd Any suggestions?

For those runlevel 5 users, an alternative is to add gnome2 to "/usr/X11R6/bin/wmlist", run "SuSEconfig", log out of your X session, and log into gnome2 for the next login session. -jrh P.S. I'd recommend backing up your gnome 1.x configuration first. It's a bit wobbly right now.

VNC software question

Hi I have a situation, where I would like to see what the student sees on his/her screen, and interviene if needed. Xvnc does open a new "x-session" on the remote, but what I need is to follow/control the actual screen that the student has on front of him/her. There is a local network with ethernet connected to 5 Linux (SuSE 7.3) computers along with the teacher computer with same OS. Any software recommandations? Jaska.

Tool for editing music files?

Hey all, I've been ripping my CDs to MP3s (for my own use - no desire to P2P stuff I've paid for). There are some songs that have too much blank space at the end of the track or in some cases have two songs on one track (the "bonus track" conspiracy, as seen on Placebo albums among others). Can anyone suggest a good program to cut the blank space off the end of some of these tracks, and split those files with two songs into two files? (Preferably something you've already used and can highly recommend.) I'm assuming I'll have to use WAV or raw data to do this, as I haven't seen a real MP3 editor yet. Using SuSE 7.3 Pro, in case someone knows of a good program that happens to be available on the disks. how to use ftp install with 8.0 cd version bugfix?

Shalom, is there allready a bugfix that makes it possible to us ethe ftp installation of addditional software from ftp for thos who installed 8.0 from cd? Everytime i try to set enter an ftp mirror in yast i get the message that a portmapper cant recieve. someone told me that the reason is that ftp installation is not yet implemented. Would it be a good idea to deinstall all yast realted stuff and apply the yast packages from ftp? Isn't there a slim workaround where i just have to change some few lines of script or config to enable ftp? (ftp works great with prowsers or the standard ftp proggy) regards, andi

Gnome 2 Dependency

I'm trying to install Gnome 2 under SuSE 8.0 and I downloaded the appropriate rpms from the SuSE ftp site. It comes up with the following dependency: /sbin/install-info is needed by libidl-0.8.0-15 Anyone know what this is, I tried creating an empty text file by that name but that didn't do it. XFree86 4.2.0 & 3.3.6

I currently have XFree86 4.2.0 set-up with my Geforce 2 MX. I also have a Voodoo 3 3000 in my computer, which I want to use with XFree86 3.3.6 (because of Glide support). When I try to use sax to configure XFree68 3.3.6, it tries to use the SVGA server with my Geforce, which fails and I have to reset my computer. Is it possible to let XFree86 3.3.6 use the Voodoo 3?
