Radeon problem on a laptop

Hi All. I just installed suse 8.0, on a laptop with a radeon LY graphics card. I ran 3Ddiag --dri, and it tells me to install the xf86_glx package through yast2. Problem is, there is no such package on the cds. Is this package missing off the cds, or is it under an obscure name? thanks, Geraint.

Kinternet inoperative in 8.0

I have setup the modem, etc. but when I try to dial with Kinternet, it comes up dials, connects, then sends dummy password where ISP comes back and says login/password pair mismatch. If I dial with KPPP, it connects with no problem. How do I get Kinternet to do the correct login and password? It is selecting the correct modem etc. Also had this problem with 7.3 on the desktop, but on the laptop, it worked with 7.3. Now, the laptop comes up with same problem. Also tried putting logon and password in the /etc/wvdial.conf. When I do this, Kinternet does not even connect. Here is the log from Kinternet. Had the directory, but tried the mount from the console with your parameters and it worked. The fstab entry I copied from my laptop is /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto,usr,sync 0 0=20 which does not work. What should this be then if it works with your mount command from the console? insmod problem in SuSE 8.0

When I boot into KDE, the xconsole has the following messages and being n= ew to=20 linux, I have no idea what they mean. insmod: insmod: a module named sg already exists insmod: insmod: insmod char-major-21 failed. Could someone please enlighten me? Art

Suggested DVD drive

I am going to splurge, and buy Suse 8.0 and a new DVD drive. What drives have worked well for you? By the way, I don't have SCSI. TIA Harry G

There are a couple of downsides to compressing these images: The images will not compress well because most of the files (*.rpm), already use compression internally; So you wouln't save that much space. It will also take a long time to compress these images, all depending on your systems resources. The other problem is that it some how a byte or two of the file became corrupted, then you may loose the whole file (compression utilities don't always handle corruption as well as they should. 7.1 -> 8.0

Well, I did a fresh install over my "old" 7.1 this weekend and I must say things went extremely well! Wheel mouse was properly recognized as was my 3DLabs video card and monitor. Just had to do a little tweeking with the size and refresh rates. TV card seems to have been recognized though I havev not tested it yet. All in all a major step forward and really very much less effort to get up and running. About an hour. However, there are a few things I still need to work on. I can boot using Yast2, but there seems to be something wrong with the way I installed lilo on floppy. Another big issue for me is Suse 8.0 still does not seem to have recognized my MegaRAID controller correctly and I still cannot use my RAID array. Any help on how to proceed to get this working would be greatly appreciated. I know some people got it working with 7.3 so one would think it should work with 8.0. Another think I noticed is it shows my Maxtor IDE drives with DMA on but my Seagate IDE drive with DMA off. Can I turn the Seagate IDE DMA on with no loss of data? Thanks for your help. The fstab entry I copied from my laptop is /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto,usr,sync 0 0=20 which does not work. What should this be then if it works with your mount command from the console? Two issues in SuSE 8.0

Hi, I've installed 8.0 and it's running really great. I have two issues, however: Fonts: I'm trying to install fonts from my windows directory and am having a little difficulty. I go into Control Center/System/Font Installer and click on "Administrator Mode" and log in as root. I then click "Change Folder" and browse to my mounted windows directory where my ttf fonts are. I click on a font to install and then click OK. The window closes but the font doesn't appear in the list to install. I also tried copying the fonts into a directory that I made in my "home" directory and added that new directory to the XF86Config file. Still no luck. Cd Burning: I've got my cdrom and cdrw set up with ide-scsi emulation. I've added the append=" hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" in lilo. I ran lilo and rebooted. I've fixed my symbolic links. I can mount by cdrom and my cdrw fine and read cds on both using konqueror. When I try to copy a disk, here's the error message: "/usr/bin/cdrecord: No such file or directory. No read access for ''. Error, Exit status: 2" I can't get KonCD to work. I also can't get xcdroast or eroaster or any other burning program to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much for any help you can give me.
