Installing Type1 fonts in 8.0

Hi all, I have done a search for this in SDB and in the mail archives and found only manual installation instructions for 8.1, using mkfontscale and mkfontdir. The thing is, mkfontscale is not available in SuSE 8.0! I have the procedure for installing those Type1 fonts in SuSE 8.1 and I am supposing the only difference is the commands you run to create the font.scale files. Would someone point me in the right direction please? I do know you can do this through YaST2 control centre as well, using the Font Installation program, but I have user wanting to do it manually. I have constructed a database of "Linux" links for my website and have compiled a comprehensive database. So much that the mysqld daemon seems to be a bit slow upon processing the indices. sendmail.8.12.3 & amavis

Dear all, I use Sendmail Milter with Amavis in my Linux box as SMPT gateway. I met a problem. Users cannot send message from mail client. The error message is "user rejected". So far it had worked well. Any idea will be appreciated. TIA Regards, LTG

Boot logging doesn't work with standard (non-SuSE) linux kernel

Hi all, I've compiled the 2.4.19 kernel from www.kernel.org (i.e. NOT from the SuSE sources). Now, boot logging does not work with the following error: blogd: console=/dev/pts/1, stdin=/dev/pts/1, must differ, boot logging disabled Furthermore, the "showconsole" command gives the following (I think related) error: showconsole: Warning: the ioctl TIOCGDEV is not known by the kernel Before posting I located a similar posting in the German mailing list but my German is not good enough to understand it and babelfish didn't help me much... Printer configuration in CUPS

God evening folks. Yesterday I updated our home server to 8.1. After the update I spend several hours to get my system back to working condition. The Cd drive did not work anymore, had to replace the link from /dev/cdrom to /dev/hdd, with a link to /dev/sr1 (my cd-toaster id is at sr0) Online update fucked up several times, but at least the problems was described in the Support Database. kdmrc was lost (again) so it was not possible to get a graphical login to KDE or Gnome. Now I would like to configure my printes, but there is no icon for that in YaST - is there not supposed to such a thingie anymore? Thanks for replying so quick. I got my sources from kernel.org To be more specific these are the files I grabed : ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/patch-2.4.19.gz ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/patch-2.4.20.gz my aim is to update from the 2.4.18 kernel that installs with my SuSE 8.0 up to the current 2.4.20. The main thing I got lost with are after I patched using the first file (2.4.19) and I give the command 'uname -a' I get the following reply : Linux linux 2.4.18-64GB-SMP #1 SMP Wed Mar 27 13:58:12 UTC 2002 i686 unknown However, if I give the command linux/scripts/patch-kernel I get this : Current kernel version is 2.4.19 What is actually happeneing here? if I navigate to /usr/src, my symbolic link points to a folder named linux-2.4.18 Also, as mentioned previously, if I now try to patch with the 2.4.20 file, it won't let me and prints the following : # gzip -cd /home/****/patch-2.4.20.gz | patch -p0 can't find file to patch at input line 4 Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option? KWinTV crashing

I have just finished installing SuSE Linux 8.1, then I wanted to setup KWinTV to make use of my Hauppauge TV card, which has worked perfectly with previous versions of SuSE Linux. I never got to see the application. The only thing I saw was KDE´ s crash handler. Has anyone else experienced this? I have installed, updated through YOU and setup HTTP, SSH and SMTP servers. kernel patching

Hi all, I'm new to linux, only 2 weeks, and I need a little help with updating the kernel. I am running 8.0 on a i686 machine and I have a few questions. My current kernel version is 2.4.18 and I thought I would have a bash at updating to 2.4.20. I used the following commands: cd /usr/src gunzip -c 'patchfile' | patch -p0 everything seemed to go to plan and I verified that for rejected portions using 'find /usr/src/linux -follow -name "*.rej" -print now if I enter the command 'uname -a' I get the following reply : Linux linux 2.4.18-64GB-SMP #1 SMP Wed Mar 27 13:58:12 UTC 2002 i686 unknown However, if I give the command 'linux/scripts/patch-kernel' I get this : 'Current kernel version is 2.4.19' What is actually happeneing here? if I navigate to /usr/src, my symbolic link points to a folder named linux-2.4.18 Also, assuming what I did was correct (which I am not entierly sure of) I tried to repeat this procedure with patchlevel 20.
