Getting Java to Work in KDE

I'm having trouble getting Konqi to display Java applets. I've been trying to get it to use IBM's Java2 JRE 1.3 (included with SuSE 7.1), and it will activate the JRE, but it never gets past the "Loading Applet" message. Any ideas? Karol, Thanks for the information, I pulled down the yast.rpm (1.09.05) update and installed it. However yast still crashes at the same point. I did an strace on yast on the system that crashes and also on one of the the duplicate system that doesn't crash. In comparing the outputs of the two strace's, there doesn't appear to be anything that jumps out as the culprit. The failing one fails on an llseek call on fd 9, then it starts bailing. Here is the output where the failure occurs. _llseek(9, 40960, [40960], SEEK_SET) = 0 time([999208207]) = 999208207 open("/var/log/YaST.err", O_WRONLY|O_APPEND|O_CREAT|O_LARGEFI | _llseek(9, 40960, [40960], SEEK_SET) = 0 fstat64(13, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=43, ...}) = 0 Hmmmm, god I hate to fdisk/format/install and start over, but at this point I see no alternative. Too bad SuSE folks are too inundated to help. Hope the MS boys don't hear about this one. NFS patches for Reiser fs

We're having a real problem with NFS here (files and directories suddenly becoming invisible or permission denied). This is on a Compaq server with hardware RAID (cpqarray) and Reiser filesystem for everything but /boot. Someone suggested that there is a problem with the combination of Reiser and NFS, and that seems to be borne out by a patch on the namesys.com site. This is a SuSE 7.1 box (kernel 2.4.0) with no modifications, do we need to patch for this? I assumed that SuSE's kernels were already patched for Reiser. Do I really need a 10/100 NIC?

My actual network is conected through a router that is connected to a cable modem and providing internet access to three laptops. What I am going to do is put one of those laptops outside the router so it can be set as a webserver and be accessed by outsiders. In that case that pc will be in the middle of the router and de ISP. I have a 10mbp NIC and a 10/100mbp. Do I really need to get another 10/100 to put in that computer or I can just put the 10/100 in the NIC connected to the ISP and the 10mbp going to the router? Hostbridge needs ETBF enabled

Wrestling with the instalation of a Hauppage TV card on my unaltered Suse 7.2 prof I started reading in the /var/log/messages for information why I have problems. Following information seems to give an indication: bttv Hostbridge needs ETBF enabled Could somebody tell me what ETBF is and in what direction I have to look for a solution?

Groups

This may be kind of a stupid question: I have set up groups on a machine w/o a password. There used to be a utility that allowed users to add themselves to groups. If the group was password protected, the user needed the password. If it wasn't, they could just join. Setting up a network printer with YaST2

I'm running 7.2 on an NT network. I would like to print to a laserjet 8000 configured as IT_Printer2 on the NT network. I also have the IP address. I went through the Printer setup in YaST2, but nothing prints when I try to print the test page. I tried both the NT name of the printer as well as the IP address. Do I have to configure Samba first? I assumed that the YaST2 tool would not require that I run Samba, but I could certainly be wrong.
