Yast crashing

Brand new install of SuSE 7.1 When I fire up yast as root and select Package Management -> Change/Create Configuration or Package Management -> Load Configuration I get the following error. Program aborted! Thu Aug 30 9:02:08 2001 ERROR: Unknown Error!, DETAIL: 0 FILE: PkgRetriever.cc LINE: 616 I manually copied over a fresh copy of the /suse/a1/yast.rpm file from the install CD's and executed: 'rpm -Uhv yast.rmp --force' But yast still dies with the same error. My only recourse now is to fdisk/format/re-install from scratch, much like a Microsoft solution. I cannot easily rebuild this system as it has numerous users on it 24x7 and it's inconvenient and embarrassing that SuSE Linux is having this problem. Anybody got any ideas (SuSE??) before I do the Redmond solution? -jpg

All of you can use the OS that is the best for you. Also you can say all that you want about that OS, and say bad thigs of the "other" OS. That you can't do is to stop fighting for nothing. This is because the human needs (al least looks like that) to fight whit other for some reason, no matter what reason is it. This is like that war where nobody knows why is fighting (they don't remenber that) but still fight. So, what if it's Linux, Windows, Mac, Unix, DOS, Netware, etc?. >From my point of view this list (and all the mail lists) are for help and be helped in some area. In fact this list is to discuss about SuSE Linux, not for write about how bad is Windows. At least for me. Let's write about information technology, because this is why almost all of us are here. Network question

I just installed the network card in my computer and the SuSE is recognizing the exact model when loading and the network card is showing the lights properly. The router is also showing all the lights (act, lnk and 100mbp) in the exact same way of the rest of my computers, but if I try to ping something is not doing so. Im not able to access the webserver from my internal network either and if I run the ifconfig is just providing my with info of the local loop (not eth at all). KDE/QT package updates on SuSE LinuKS site, what's new/fixed?

Hello SuSE people, (http://www.suse.de/en/support/download/LinuKS/i386/update_for_7_2/base.html) I see that there are more package updates (Aug 29th) on the LinuKS site: audiofile kdebase kdebase-ksysguardd kdebase-nsplugin kdelibs kdelibs-artsd kdelibs-cups libogg libvorbis libxml2 qt What is different between these RPMs and the RPMs from Aug 24th? What has been updated/fixed? Shouldn't there be a summary of fixes/updates on the web page? I can't be the only person asking these questions. I see RPMs with newer dates all the time on this site, and I never know what is new/better or just fixed. I know how to do it one by one. I guess I didn't make myself clear on either account. I would like to be able to check the dependencies on all packages by pushing a button and it tells me every package that does not have a dependency met. Also, I know how to get to Nuernberg, but I do not know what street SuSE is located or how to get to that street. I guess I am looking for a street map with the route possibly ; ) highlighted. Docs on printcap and its filters

I'm debugging a particularly thorny bit of printer misbehavior, and to do it I need to learn more about the conventions for specifying printer filters in /etc/printcap. Because of the problem I'm dealing with, it's easier for me to work with lprold rather than lprng (installing lprng doesn't solve the problem but makes the debugging more difficult). The man page for printcap is not at all informative about printer filters -- for example, it mentions nothing about the convention of using a pipe as a printer filter. The termcap man page is no better and the Linux Printing HOWTO isn't helpful on that subject either. I know I've seen some better documentation on printer filters, but now I can't seem to find it. Any pointers? Also, any pointers on the permissions and ownerships of spool files that Berkeley lpd, i.e, lprold, expects? Paul

That happened to me as well when I temporarily switched to another address. Unfortunately, this address for some reason didn't allow me to post, only to receive. I tried numerous times to unsubscribe and sent mails to the 'owner'. It took over a week to finally get off the list for that account. What is drm under XFree86?

My X server keeps crashing, and it's more than a little annoying. It happens when I'm scrolling a window by click-and-holding on the scroll button and dragging it up-and-down, or when I move my mouse really fast. It happens more frequently the first way. It does not happen every time I do so. The only thing that gets printed anywhere is in the console, and in messages: double kernel: [drm:drm_release] *ERROR* Process 444 dead, freeing lock for context 1 Any advice? My setup is SuSE 7.1, XFree86 4.1.0, and a Voodoo3 AGP card. My windows manager is XFCe. Thanks!
