Hi Sometimes when I use the ps -aux command, I see that there is written defunct near the name of the processus root 1003 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 13:30 0:00 [cron <defunct>] What does it mean ? Is there something wrong i shoud fix? Thanks Charlie Ti

logitech quickcam web

I have a logitech quickcam web webcam, I've asked about this puppy before, and did find a bunch of websites that have kernel drivers for the logitech quickcam (sourceforge is the best place to find them). But sadly they do not work wioth the logitech quickcam web (which has USB id 0850 whereas the normal quickcams have 0840). HAs anyone ever found anythign to get the quickcam web to work ? (I think the lego webcam is the same type). Hi Guys, I was extracting my arj files and it was not able to extract? By default of my installation from my Suse 7.0 eval copy. SSH compatible program?

Some of the computers I must use for work are loaded with M$ operating systems, which is something over which I have no control. What I would like to know is if there are software packages available for Winders machines that are SSH compatible so I can securely log into my Linux boxes from remote locations? I hesitate to do it via telnet for obvious reasons. What can you tell me? Is this a pipe dream, or something that might be possible? My machines at home run a mix of SuSE 6.4 and 7.1. ATTN SuSE: Serious Bug: Sax2 never actually saves the XF86Config file!

Ok, Excuse me if I sound hyper, I'll try to stay calm but I'm really upset over this. Before I go any further, I would like to state: 1. This started on box #1, SuSE 7.1 2. We updated sax2 with the latest updates for 7.1 and it still didn't fix the problem 3. The same said problem happened when we tried to run sax2 on a 2nd and 3rd computer, all with totally different hardware, so it's not hardware related, it's SaX2's problem. 4 Finally, we updated computer #1 to SuSE 7.2 and it STILL isn't fixed! The error is as follows: During setup, you can set the monitor settings just fine, and they are saved to /etc/XF86Config. HOWEVER, when you try to run SaX2 at a later time (it happened to us the first time when we needed to "install" a new monitor), it goes through the whole process and never actually saves the XF86Config file. I have tried a wide variety of things, including clicking Save file >"no" to Exit >Fine Tune> Save and Save file>"No" to exit >Fine tune>abort>Save file> "Yes" to exit - every possible combination. One time, I found the saved file in some weird place, I think it was /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/sax/files/. But only once, the rest of the time I couldn't find it anywhere. And worst of all, SaX2 did not give any error message, and it's NOT a permission problem, I tried chmod 777 /etc/XF86Config and also tried removing it all together, and the same thing for /etc/X11/XF86Config -- nothing, no results, no file was ever saved. As I stated before, this has now happened on 3 entirely different computers. It's becoming a source of embarrassment too - I have often recommended SuSE to friends because of SuSE" excellent SaX2 configuration tool, and now that bit of advise is very worthless. Please, please, please, do something about this. I bet you there's a few newbies out there who went out and bought mandrake the next day after running into this problem. What really boggles me is this has happened to me 4 times of the last few months, and I haven't seen anyone else report this problem. Has anyone else run into this? I was going to upgrade my SuSE 7.1 installation to kernel 2.4.2 on the SuSE FTP site. I noticed that the directory was marked "Do not use" I have not been able to find out why it was marked as such. I was hoping that perhaps someone from SuSE would be able to shed some light on it. Thanks, Victor

StarOffice 5.2: Failed to load necessary components

It's 7.1 Pro, StarOffice 5.2. Whenever I try to start the beast, it produces Failed to load necessary components I checked the archives of the list but the best match I found was that the problem was discussed on the list already. I looked through 2001 and 2000, month by month (I hate this type of search--isn't it possible to allow global search of the whole archive?) but found nothing. Anybody knows the solution? (I use Applixware at home but have no other choice but SO at work to read M$ files) -Kastus

gnucash 1.6 and Suse 7.2 works

Hi folks, gnucash 1.6.0 now works with 7.2 using the three rpms form www.gnucash.org. Follow the SuSE 7.1 rpm link and download and install the three rpms. I did not use the source. Next you will need to run yast to insttall the rpms. I got two errors on runing gnucash libgnomeprint.so.15 installed gnomeprint form the gnome section libgal.so.4 installed gal package. Your milage may vary and most likly as was the case with my system , yast will add a bunch of other packages as well to satisfy dependencys. BTW the new print funtiond works realy nice and looks very sharp.

The point, friends, is that when you run Sax2, you shouldn't have to do /anything/ but click "Finish" and then type "startx". Agreed? Problems browsing the www.....

I am running two laptops (W2K & SuSE) connected to a network (NT) using dynamic IP's through DHCP. Both of them were working fine for a couple of days until I started messing up to configure my Kmail. Since then I can get connected internally (web server and intranet) but now I can just browse the www from the W2K laptop. If I try to ping something from linux (like www.dell.com) I get packages transmision with no error but Im not able to browse www. I'm not sure if they change something on the network that it is blocking me the access (I have nothing to do with the network admin, as a matter of fact Im just and end user, so Im far from them) or if I changed something on my puter that it is not allowing me to browse. What should I check? The strange thing is that I am pingin everywhere but not even the netscape or the konkeror are allowing me to have fun in the cyberspace. Thnx!!!!!!! ===== Ricardo A. Does anyone know of all the places where 'mailto:root@domain' is specified in SuSE. I don't know. I thought I caught them all and changed them to ben(a)whack.org and changed all of /etc/aliases to point to ben and not root..but I have one I can't find that's sending cron info to root@myisp...oops. autofs problem with 7.1 -> 7.2

I'm having a problem with the autofs after upgrading from 7.1 -> 7.2. I manually selected an older version during the install. I had problems with this before, and don't recall exactly what I did to fix it. I simply cannot automount my network share. Any ideas? TIA, Steven

I just did a fresh install of 7.2 last night. Then updated X to 4.1, updated sax2, and loaded the latest nvidia drivers (version 1.0). I configured with sax2 and had no problems whatsoever. I also used "change configuration". However, I have the opposite problem. If I use the "nv" option, it crashes. If I use the "nvidia" option, it works fine. CVS remote connection question

I have a CVS repository on a server at work. Everything looks good, I can save all my files like normal on the linux machine. I also write Win32 code and decided to use WinCVS to access the database. I was able to do a login, but when I try to checkout a module it give the the error,"cannot open /root/.cvsignore permission denied". I can not find anywere in the CVS configuration that it points to this file, this file does not exisit.
