It's 7.1 Pro, StarOffice 5.2. Whenever I try to start the beast, it produces Failed to load necessary components I checked the archives of the list but the best match I found was that the problem was discussed on the list already. I looked through 2001 and 2000, month by month (I hate this type of search--isn't it possible to allow global search of the whole archive?) but found nothing. Anybody knows the solution? (I use Applixware at home but have no other choice but SO at work to read M$ files) -Kastus

Try this: Go to YaST1 and try to install a package (pick one, you will cancel installation anyway) Then look at the output of YaST concerning "dependencies", it might just be that it tells you what's missing to run SO properly. I **never** had problems making SO running... 6.1, 6.3, 6.4, 7.0 and 7.1 Hope it helps, Alvaro Novo SuSE 7.1 -=- Kernel 2.4.2-4GB -=- KDE 2.1.1 4:33pm up 2 days, 1:50, 3 users, load average: 1.09, 1.06, 1.01

Did that a couple of times. Installed so-base, so-en, and java. There are no more dependencies there. Anyway, thanks for responding.

I never used it, but now have no other option. And it does not work. I am afraid it is some stale file in /tmp or /var, I wish I knew what. -Kastus

Suse 7.1 KDE 2.1.1 XF864.0.3 I had this problem. Star Office had a problem with shared libraries. I uninstalled the base package and so_en, rebooted, then installed them again. Star Office started ok. Brian Marr On Thursday 28 June 2001 07:23, you wrote:

1) try removing the user52.rdb file
Did that, was able to install it again (workstation install) but when try to fire up the real thing then, no go again, same error message.
2) do what I did download the latest Soffice from Suns website
I really don't know if it worth it. I will look for the way to transfer Applixware from my home machine -Kastus
