KDE2.1 update problems

Just Updated to kde2.1 from the suse ftp site and have noticed a couple of anomalies. 1. The kde splash screen stays locked at 60% for about 2 minutes before going away. 2. The new kwintv-0.8.5-25 says "The KDE libraries are not designed to run with suid privileges." when I try to run it. I've installed almost all of it except the qt-experimental, qt-static, and qt-freebies. Did I install something I shouldn't have or must I do these also?? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh(a)cfl.rr.com

Friends: I have a customer that wants to connect several remote machines through phone access (with a card DIGI, or similar) with a central server that administers several servers in turn. The remote clients send petitions to the server, and this central server would have to authenticate the access, to receive the petition, to guide (routing) it to the corresponding server, to receive the answer and to return it to the remote client. Can I make that with Linux? Of to be this way, Which the approximate steps would be to achieve this task? thank you Ernesto

network.opts

Hi, Am running 7.1 pro on a dell laptop. Can anyone suggest the culprit for the following: Something keeps overwriting /etc/pcmcia/network.opts such that whenever I boot the machine without a network connection on the following boot the file has been reset to unconfigured state resulting in time recreating it, shuttingdown pcmcia and restarting eth) and pcmcia. As I use this machine in a wide variety of places this is a real pain. TIA Francesco

ELSA 56K Microlink External

Hi Folks, I'm looking for some feedback about using an ELSA external modem with serial port interface, with the linux operating system. While I'm trying to figure out some ADSL issues, I would like to use my linux box on the net. I am interested in this particular manufacturer because it seems to have so many models that are linux-compatible. All opinions, experiences, and insights are welcome and appreciated. By the way, I should mention that my motherboard does not have any ISA slots, that's why I am looking for a good external modem. Thank you for your time. Mike Flug michael.flug(a)snet.net

KDE2.1 Control Center Glitch (PPC)

Hi, I have KDE2.1 (from SuSE ftp), running OK on my PPC. However, any attempt to use hardware information from KDE control center produces link error: undefined - /opt/kde2/lib/kde2/libkcm_info.so, _floatdidf. Any idea what I am missing? Thanks in advance. Andrei

Hi everyone, Just wanted to reply about my inquiry about WP8 last night. Just before Kastus replied, and had found a similar suggestion on the Corel WP Newsgroup, so between Joe's suggestion of searching the newsgroup, and Kastus's suggestion (which helped me look up the RPM on the DVD - I was looking under libc5), I'm all set.
