Hi, Looks like my Suse 7.0 server has "forgotten" to jump forward one hour.. poor thing is still one hour behind the rest of us. ;) Why hasnt it changed the time? Shouldnt this be automatic? Can I fix this and make it automatic? Thanks!

What is km_drm-4.0.3-0.i386.rpm in X4.0.3?

One of the rpms in the DRI directory, km_drm, seems to contain kernel modules source code. It seems to have modules for three of the video cards I have: sis, r128 and mga. Do I need to install this in order to activate DRI on the supported cards? What should I do with this RPM once it is installed? Do I need to rebuild the kernel? wvdial dials twice

Hi: My wvdial (and kppp for that matter) will dial twice to make a connection. I get messages like these: --> Modem Initialized. --> Dialing AT&T --> Sending ATDT655 1900 --> Waiting for carrier ATDT655 1900 CONNECT 38666/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS -->Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt. STATION ID stlmo110rs06pr003,stlmo25ev Welcome Please Sign-on Please Sign-on Please Sign-on Please Sign-on Login failed, reason= (-179,stlmo25ev,985580215-002,stlmo110rs06pr003) Connection closed by foreign host. --> Don't know what to do! Starting pppd and hoping for the best. -->Starting pppd at Sun Mar 25 22:14:17 2001 --> pid of pppd 3143 -->Disconnecting at Sun Mar 25 22:14:31 2001 --> The PPP Daemon has died. A modem hung up the phone (exit code = 16) <snip> This is a stock install; no compiled kernel. Just 7.1 and KDE 2.1. Other times it will work fine but that is not often. Could it be my ISP? ip-up & ip-local problem with SuSe 7.1

Hello! I use wvdial as my Internet dialer and fetchmail & sendmail, as well as leafnode news server. I'd like to automatically (with the ip-up and/or ip-local script) to fetch and send my mail with fetchmail & sendmail, as well as to start SuSE firewall. I have uncommented appropriate lines to start fetchmail & sendmail in ip-up script and wvdial reports after connection that the script is running, however I cannot see that the mail is fetching and sending. For now, I manually start fetchmail & fetchnews, as well as sendmail -v -q. Please, if someone can explain me and/or send me the script to have automated sending/fetching mail and news, setting system clock and starting firewall. Sincerely, Sasa

anyone using Oracle on SuSE?

If so where did you get it? Ive downloaded the 8.1.7 (560 M).tar file. What I have is one partition /DRV_ORACLE 2G I mount the cd as follows mnt /dev/hdd /DRV_ORACLE/src then Ill try to untar as --> tar xf /DRV_ORACLE/src/oracle8.7.tar /DRV_ORACLE/files Im suspecting the files is too big although received no errors during download because the file is so big, tar goes through its iterations but eventually fails with an "unknown error" essentially Ive tried every way to untar but it still fails. Ive untarred in windows and it extracts about 100 files then fails on one file "cant continue" So, Im wondering where one can get the cd besides ordering from Oracle. I certainly can do that but dont wnat to wait. I see on the 7.0 box some offer from oracle? Any Oracle SuSE users out there? any good resources? many thanks rob

I agree and have seen this as more Red Hat garbage by the apps folks in the US. /dev/lp in 2.4 kernel

Can anyone tell me how to configure a 2.4 kernel (or SuSE 6.4) so that /dev/lp can read text from a parallel port printer through a status request? Specifically, I have SuSE 6.4 on an i686 with a 2.4.0 kernel. Currently I have the kernel compiled with parport support but without IEEE 1284 transfer modes. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 870 on the end of a daisy chain with a parport scanner in the middle. This works fine when sending information to the printer through /dev/lp0 but (as expected) I can't get status information. I can get status information with a standard SuSE 2.2.14 kernel. I've tried recompiling the kernel with IEEE 1284 tranfer modes, but then I can't even print, though on one test dmesg reported that an Epson printer had been detected. Can anyone tell me what I should do to get this to work? I need a 2.4 kernel for USB support, but don't want to upgrade SuSE until about kernel 2.4.6. I have seen this in my log files, but the drive runs fine as far as I can tell. Is this a result of hdparm? Mar 26 10:06:31 zeus kernel: hdc: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } Mar 26 10:06:31 zeus kernel: hdc: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC } Is the drive going bad? I have a brand new IBM drive I was going to put in another box..and hdc is /home only. I can move the data and replace the drive although I don't want to. It could be just the goof Maxtor drive and how Linux is using it.
