Simple masquerading setup

Hi, For reasons I will not bore you with, I need a very simple masquerading setup. According to the sample firewall config supplied with SuSe 7, my needs can be met by the combination of just two commands : (a) "echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward", (b) "ipchains -A forward -j MASQ -i ppp0" These commands work just fine when entered from the keyboard. Can anyone tell me where I should put them to have them execute automatically at boot-time ? I tried adding them to boot.local, but they do not appear to execute - masquerading is not available when I put them there. NIC problem

Hello all, I am trying to install a Linksys NIC but SuSE 7.0 Professional is not recognizing it. It is the LNE100TX, version4.1 in a PCI slot. I have tried using the tulip driver as suggested. What makes me upset is that is says "Tested with LINUX" on the front of the box, but when you look in manual they say they don't support "beta" software and that includes linux. So, if anybody has successfully installed this card, I would gladly take any/all ideas. TIA

SuSE 7.0 multicast question

Hi, I need multicast working between two SuSE 7.0 Professional boxes on the same lan. Box A: 192.168.1.4 Box B: 192.168.1.10 For both machines: ifconfig -a shows eth0 has MULTICAST set The output of the 'route' command includes the following entry on both: 224.0.0.0 * 240.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 Multicast does not appar to be working correctly between the two machines. example: If I ping the 'all groups' multicast address I get: BoxA:/> ping 224.0.0.1 PING 224.0.0.1 (224.0.0.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.4: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.183 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.7: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.277 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.9: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.351 ms (DUP!) BoxB:/> ping 224.0.0.1 PING 224.0.0.1 (224.0.0.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.185 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.9: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.410 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from 192.168.1.7: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.492 ms (DUP!) Notice box A/B never responds when pinged by the other. Why is this? The other two machines that respond are SuSE 6.1. Let's call them C and D /sbin/ifconfig -a shows the interface is set to MULTICAST for both machines(C and D) /sbin/route shows that there is not a 224.0.0.0 entry on either machine C or D? Yet they respond?? At machine C or D: ping 224.0.0.1 returns: PING 224.0.0.1 (224.0.0.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.7: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.446 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.9: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.624 ms (DUP!) . . No sign of machines A and B! I tried temporarily removing the 224.0.0.0 route entry ,like the SuSE6.1 machines, but no joy!! Any ideas? What have I missed here? Do I have to do something with the kernel? I am under the impression that because ifconfig shows 'MULTICAST' for eth0, SuSE has set the kernel parameters. Is this assumption correct? Upgrading to 2.4 Kernel on 6.3

I have been running SuSe 6.3for the last year and while I know I should upgrade, really have no intention to do so currently. I have been updating my kernels on a regular basis and I recently built the 2.4 pre11 release. Unfortunately, once I read the changes documentation that accompanied the kernel I realized that there were many packages that I needed to update. I was wondering if there was an easy way to obtain the necessary packages for the upgrade. I know I can download the SuSe 6.4/7.0 upgrades for these packages, but I don't know if these are 2.4 ready. libJPEG vers 61 not vers 62

Hi SuSErs :) ~ am trying to set up Quanta. this should need libjpeg62 But, I get error message telling me it sees version 62 , but needs vers 61 { which i believe is upside_down } . . . I have tried removing version 61, but this screws up Window Maker, which I guess must have been compiled with libjpeg61 I have a symbolic link, linking the 2 versions.
