Automatic update of already installed packages

Uiterlinden" <puiterl(a)hacom.nl> Subject: Automatic update of already installed packages My system is SuSE 6.4 and I want to apply all the updates available in ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/6.4/. I've already copied this whole tree to my hard disk. The problem is that I only want updates of already installed packages. If I would do something like: rpm -Uhv $(find <my_dir> -type f -name '*.rpm') then *all* packages would be installed, in stead of updating only already installed packages. Neither YaST nor rpm seems to provide the functionality I'm looking for. Am I overlooking the obvious, or what? Paul.

How can I.....

Hi all,,, I've been beating my head against the wall here. Here's what I'm trying to do. Computer A is the faster with better video. Computer B has the larger HD. I want to be on computer A and run a program that is stored on B's HD. The program should run on A not B. I've been messing with NFS, but it will not allow me to do this. I can only read / write on NFS. Any ideas for me? TIA! YaST crashes with Bus Error

Hi, Every time I run YaST the program exits with Bus Error. Then the whole system crashes. It appears to be a SCSI issue, because after the bus error, then I can't read from the hard disks anymore. Just I/O Errors, and stuff. Cant even "init 0" or "shutdown -r". I don't even know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hi All, Yes, it's a problem with UUnet having a routing loop. Our provider doesn't use UUnet but it's peers do. Currently, it seems that most of Europe can't get to us...we're doing everything we can to resolve this which unfortunately means that we're pretty much stuck waiting for UUnet to get their act together and remove the loop. tabana- i guess i wasn't clear. i need to burn a bootable cd-rom. my cd-rw is a toshiba scsi. i use it for audio and iso file systems. the toaster is an abit m-board/athlon. my hard drive is not bootable due to a utility company's stepdown transformer that exploded during a severe wind storm here in n. california. i can read and write to all partitions but i cannot boot. thus i would like to be able to boot from a cd while i attempt to back-up and possibly repair the hard drive. oh yes, the floppy is also dead in the h2o. i've been thru various docs including man mkisofs. but as is often true with linux docs, i end up with as many questions as answers. thanks- larry tabanna wrote: > > Hi :) > > ~ no sweat . . . hit DEL when you start 'puter . . . enter BIOS > and set boot_sequence to boot first from CDrom > > .. . . save, and exit > > That's all :) > > best wishes > > -- > ____________ > sent on Linux > ____________ > > 100% Virus Free! > AMD Inside

Another workaround would be to login on computer A, telnet/rsh/rlogin/ssh to computer B, send the display to computer A and execute your programs/utils/tools/whatever... For (k)sh: DISPLAY=computer-A:0.0 ; export DISPLAY For (t)csh: setenv DISPLAY computer-A:0.0 For bash/zsh: export DISPLAY=computer-A:0.0 HTH, Martin

Resizing a reiserfs partition

Hi, I would like to resize the / partition which is a reiserfs. The documentation is not very clear (at least for me) on this topic. I think the problem is actually in your /etc/rc.config file. I have experienced this same problem. There is an option in rc.config that controls the contents of the ip_forward file upon booting up ... either 0 or 1. Can anyone tell me where I should put them to have them execute automatically at boot-time ? I tried adding them to boot.local, but they do not appear to execute - masquerading is not available when I put them there. Is there a unified site for this? <*] Wrong! Creative Webcam III is pretty well supported under Linux, even with SuSE's "basical" kernel 2.2.X. (I mean, it is not a recent feature of kernel 2.4, for instance...) Configure your kernel for USB support and OV511 camera support (USB support section). Have a look at www.linux-usb.org to get more infos and software to use with your cam (I use w3cam).
