I'd have to disagree. I've been watching DVDs on Linux for over 6 months now! Also the benefits of the Gb of storage are impressive. Installing SuSE off a single disc is very useful Rik.

Oracle Developer 6i on Linux

Has anyone tried the Developer 6i on Linux yet. I'm very interested in getting rid of windows all together, and my main app is Developer 6i. Which by the way runs terribly on windows, along with everything else. I have 512 mbyte of ram, and that is not enough resources to run both Forms and Reports at the same time (ridiculous). Command-line image processing

Hi all, I'm looking for a command line program that will perform resizing, etc. on an image. Batch processing would be an advantage. The idea is that I want to make thumbnails for a large number of jpeg images, and I would like it to do this automatically, from within a script. I'm sure I've heard of something before, but I can't quite remember what it's called. I anyone knows the name of such a program, could you let me know. Did you follow the suse instructions below http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/usbmice64.html I think this solved everything for me. The first time i did it, I missed out the last step, mk_initrd and of course it didnt work. No sound control

I can't control the sound volume with KDE 2. kmix tells Illegal mixer "SigmaTel STAC9721/23" I have no idea what that is. My sound chip is es1968. Thanks, Daniel. I already have that document and checked the binutils before I started. This seems to be a more general problem with a part of my installation not knowing that I have an SMP kernel. I suspect an erroneous link somewhere, but don't know where to start looking. Check your binutils version by 'size --version'. Make sure it is at least 2.9.5.

Problems compiling the Nvidia driver

Hello, everyone. I finally found some free time to try and add 3D acceleration to one of my SuSE7 boxes. My problem is that compiling from the Nvidia SRC RPM doesn't work out quite right. Here are the details: Machine: Dual Pentium-233MMX Tyan S1564D Mobo 192MB RAM Diamond Viper V550 PCI (this is a 16MB TNT board) Others: 3C905B, AWE64, 12GB IDE Drive, 32X IDE CDROM I have already installed the latest XFree86 4.0.2 from the SuSE ftp site, and that is working just great, so no problems there. I also downloaded the latest 0.9.6 Nvidia driver as .src.rpm files, since I am running kernel 2.2.16-SMP, and Nvidia don't have a binary RPM for that yet. Installing the src.rpm worked just fine. Then compiling the source to a binary rpm worked as per the instructions on the Nvidia site. Now we hit the problem; when I try to add the driver, insmod fails because the driver was compiled for kernel 2.2.16, not 2.2.16-SMP. Why is it that my compiler thinks I am running a different kernel to that which I am actually running ? How do I persuade the compiler to compile the module for the correct kernel ? util-linux for 2.4.0 and SuSE implmentation

Am I correct in saying SuSE uses PAM for the shadow password file? Is the inittab sys V like? Recomendations for kernel 2.4.0 are to upgrate the util-linux package but it ask questions I am not sure how to answer. The package also mentions that some of the program including simpleinit are not sys V compliant. What kind of trouble do I have to be wary of here? Of course any help here will be appreciated. thanks, kurtrr
