[SLE] "login,installation of packages, and changing user root's usernam e"

Hey there guys, here's a question from a newly. Just bought a brand new Seagate 17.2 gig hard drive and installed Suse Linux 6.3 on a 486 computer, took me like about 12 hours to do a straight installation of all packages. Worth the wait I tell you all. first question When I boot to Linux as user root, and start my x server I see all the available programs installed on the system, but on some instances I see where I have for instance a program folder called applixware and when I go into it I see all the programs in there but they don't open at all, and this seem to happen with allot of other programs as well. can someone in the list please tell me what I may have been overlooking second question I sniffed around in my system and went ahead to configure my system to boot to a graphical mode instead of ansci, and now I can't get it to boot to ansci now that I'm ready to. I have some literature here with me and I read them and try to make as much sense of them as I can. I was reading "Suse Linux unleashed" and I cant find anything in it that would have told me what to do. can someone direct me to a config file that I can edit or to tell me what possible solutions there are. Third question How can I change user root's username. Fourth question I have installed a 32mb of ram on the 486 system and I now need to increase my swap file system since I carelessly took all the defaults during the installation. [SLE] sendmail stat=i/o error

Hi ! Linux Users Why I am getting stat=i/o error at my maillog. I am using diald to access to Internet with my local smtp server. According to sendmail.org FAQ is because of MTU How to solve it ? Thank's Chris! All I needed was to run the gmc command and everything was set, I tend to forget that gmc actually is a seperate part of GNOME. [SLE] GNOME 1.2.1

GNOME 1.2.1 is making it impossible for me to log in. Whenever the machines boots it boots into a GNOME login interface which asks me for a login. The problem is I cannot type in any login username and therefore cannot login. To make matters worse I cannot break out of the login graphical interface. Ctrl-Alt-Bkspce doesn't have any effect. [SLE] GNOME problem

Hi all suser's I've got this weird problem with GNOME; it doesn't show any icons or anything on the desk, right- and middle- clicking with the mouse doesn't bring up any menus either. But the panel and and the pop-up menu work like they are expected to, and the window managers are ok. Anyone who is familiar with this kind of weird behaviour? Cheers! [SLE] PCMCIA tape drive

Does anyone have a suggestion for a backup tape drive which connects to a laptop via a pcmcia card with good linux support. I'ld like one with several gb capacity. Thanks for any hints.
