Is there a current list of ALL files installed from ALL packages based on a 6.4 distribution? I'm working with the new tripwire and have been in talks with them in regards to making the policy file compatible with the SuSE distribution itself. Hello, we have a XEROX DocuPrint P8ex printer. All the computers are hooked up to one server. The printer itself, is connected to one of these computers. That computer uses Windows and it serves as the print server. If that computer is turned off, then we have no access to the printer. I am reading the document smb.conf concerning SAMBA. If I understand right, I have to set up my computer as a smbclient. This seems like a lot of work to get one computer to print. Windows people push a couple of buttons and they are printing. Hi there, I am new to this mail list so please forgive me if my questions are reruns!! I am installing SuSE6.4 on an Apple PowerMac G3 500 with no end of problems with respect to X windows!!! iSax gives a segmentation fault. ax accepts Video Memory values (8Mb) but ignores them. xsfbswitch returns error values for every possible entry and doen't allow fine tuned frequencies to be specfied for any resolution 640x... up to 1024x... (as per the book p159-160 - yes I've tried to Read the FINE manual!!) So far the only way I have found to configure Xwindows is to zap the entire system, reload, configure it once and don't touch. BUT as soon as the runlevel is set to 3, the colour depth reverts to 256 and is not able to be changed EVER again!!! Are there any other tools for configuring XWindows. xfine is not applicable and modegen doesn't work. There isn't XF86Setup anywhere for this system is there... [SLE] Named problems.

Hi Anybody help me with 2 named problems ? This is the bind 8.1 version of named which is completely different to what I'm used to. I am trying to get my Linux 6.4 machine to act as a secondary (now called slave) to an AIX primary. The primary works fine. Problem 1: The slave works ok for lookup but not for inverse lookup. Problem2: If I put the local IP address or the loopback address in the /etc/resolv.conf, nslookup always tells me "*** Can't find server name for address ..." Here is the relevant bit of my named.conf... zone "." IN { type hint; file "root.hint"; }; zone "cognesis.com" IN { type slave ; file "slave.zone"; masters { 158.84.84.22; } ; }; ... thanks in advance. Dear SuSE's, I have a really nasty network problem. It occurs if I want to download *some* mails with properties (the problem doesn't occure with *all* mails with these properties!) - multipart/mixed, and - base64 encoding, by - Netscape Messenger (POP3), or - fetchmail, or - telnet. It's probably some kind of configuration problem, because - with other mails, I don't have any problems, - the problem occures with different ISP's, - but not from Win 95, SCO Unix OSE 5.0.5 and AIX 4.2.1.0 (thank you Todd for testing!). I don't know, if it is a SuSE specific or a general Linux problem, though. First I show you the telnet session with one mail downloaded successful (retr 2) and the other failing (retr 1); after that the TCP/IP packages given by tcpdump. [SLE] Netscape won't print via network

Hello, I use SuSE 6.3 at our work. I can't tell you how nice it is. All our computers our hooked up via a network. I and other Linux users are the only ones who can't print. Windows people push a few buttons, the printer gets set up and they are printing away. Our administrator says I have to type in two pages of text to get print. Any ideas on this? [SLE] How to install a USB ADSL modem?

I'm running SuSE 6.4, with GCC 2.95.2, on an HP P3-800 computer. My question is how to install my speedstream external USB modem in linux. The auto detect for modems didn't find it, and I heard that I need to recompile the kernel, or something like that. I'm a linux newbie, and I don't know much about kernel compilations, so I was wondering whether there is an easier way? None of the setup tools provided in SuSE 6.4 worked, and I couldn't find any specific drivers on Alcatel's website. [SLE] fsck failed

Hello SuSE Folks, during the last boot, my box hung when initializing the ethernet card. As it seemed to be frozen, I tried to reboot, but nothing worked and, as a last resort, I pushed the reset button. As you might guess, I got an fsck during the following boot procedure, and it finaly stopped with the following message : "fsck failed please repair manually and reboot. The root file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it read-write do: bash# mount -n -o remount,rw / Attention : Only CONTROL-D will reboot the system in this maintenance mode. shutdown or reboot will not work root login:" So, can anyone please explain me how to repair the file system manually ? [SLE] cron problem

I recently installed SuSE 6.4 on a new Dell PIII 800 machine. A process 'manpath' owned by root gets started periodically but never terminates, and consumes 99% of the CPU. I've been killing it manually, but also discovered that if I don't, at some point a second manpath job gets started as well. I'm assuming that a cron job initiates this, but I'm at a loss to find the problem. I haven't found anything in the online documentation. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
