[SLE] fsck failed
Hello SuSE Folks, during the last boot, my box hung when initializing the ethernet card. As it seemed to be frozen, I tried to reboot, but nothing worked and, as a last resort, I pushed the reset button. As you might guess, I got an fsck during the following boot procedure, and it finaly stopped with the following message : "fsck failed please repair manually and reboot. The root file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it read-write do: bash# mount -n -o remount,rw / Attention : Only CONTROL-D will reboot the system in this maintenance mode. shutdown or reboot will not work root login:" So, can anyone please explain me how to repair the file system manually ? Thanks in advance. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

- login (as root) - do a "/sbin/fsck.ext2 -y /dev/(YOUR ROOT PARTITION, e.g. /dev/hda3)" - wait - do a "CTRL-D" and enjoy the reboot Hadn't had that situation for a long time, so I hope I didn't forget something which is only obvious when you're sitting in front of the machine and really doing it... -- Michael Hasenstein http://www.suse.de/~mha/ SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg (Germany) SuSE Inc., Oakland, California (US) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
It worked ! Thanks for your help Now, a few questions arise : 1. after the "/sbin/fsck.ext2 -y /dev/hd.." command, everything worked automaticly. So why the fsck run during the booting couldn't make the repair ? 2. before the fix, nearly all programs generated the error message "can't open cache '/etc/ld.so.cache'", but worked nevertheless.
