[SLE] Intallation problem w/ Patition Magic and IBM Boot manager

After the installation and basic configuration, I restarted the computer. Now the IBM BOOT manager says that the Linux partition is not formatted. I have 1 HD w/ several partitions: 1- Windows 2- Boot Manager 3- Linux (7Mb) mounted in /boot 4- Windows 5- Windows 6- Linux mounted in / 7- Linux swap The Boot Manager knows the boot partitions 1 and 3. I asked Yast to install LILO in 3. However, after reboot, the boot manager says that the partition is not formatted. I've recently started a project using Apache, MySQL and php3 so I picked up "PHP3 programming browser-based applications" by David Medinets, McGraw Hill pub. I picked it up last night so I can't give any real review. Also I find the O'Reilly books quite good and I'm certain there are ones covering MySQL and Apache (before you ask no the local store didn't have an O'Reilly book on php in stock). Most Linux users go out of their way to choose components from vendors who support Linux. The SANE web page is at http://www.mostang.com/sane/. I would suggest you go there and join the mailing list. No, you're wrong. It's really stupid, and I've criticised SuSE on this issue before. They install the desktop as a package, and that package contains the menu config files. Those config files should be adjusted to take into account what files are and are not on the system. But they're not adjusted, so newbies end up in with the confusion you have. This is daft, daft, daft. You have 2 options. Install "just about everything" using Yast - if you have the disk space. If you don't, do a search in Yast's package manager for the thing you want (a name or keyword should find it, otherwise ask here), then install the package(s) for that utility. > I think the major problem I first have to overcome is getting Yast to > install the kpackage patch, without this I can't do anything. I assume you have downloaded the new version of kpackage as an .rpm file from the SuSE update site? If so, switch to root in a terminal and issue the rpm utility's update command directly: rpm -Uvh whatever-you-called-it.rpm This will install the new kpackage as an upgrade. This is exactly what Yast will do if you ever get it to play ball. [SLE] wvdial.dod misbehave?

Hi, I have set wvdail with dial-on-demand and masquerading on a SuSE 6.4 server to connect to Internet from my workstations (both windose and Linux) and all seam to work fine, with one important exception - server spontaniously dial my ISP without reason. I even tried to power off all workstations and just leave server running with same result. I have named set up and pretty sure it's part of the reason for this behaviour, but how can I filter this out? I have set "notify" to "no", which is the only thing I'm aware of possibly would try to initiate an outbound connection of its own. Also, nameserver ip is on same dev "eth0" as used for "FW_DEV_INT", and this ip (192.168.0.1) is also set as gateway for all workstation clients. Would it be better to aliases an other ip on "eth0:0" and use as "FW_DEV_INT" and gateway, or for nameserver? The dial-up seam to happen with irregular time intevalls, alway very soon after reboot, then it can be with just 30 sec or upto several hours delay, but the most common seam to be about 15 min. The wvdial.dod is set to be started in Yast configuration of rc.config. I really would be greatful if some could help me figure this out... thanks.
