[SLE] [SLE} RS/6000 PPC Linux

Hello Folks, I'm going to inherit a an IBM 42T. It has the "Power PC" silk-screen on it. Does anybody know or heard of anyone installing Linux on RS/6000 based hardware. Or is their bus just too proprietary for anybody to even try it. This box is old but it runs X with GLX on a giant card and a 20" monitor. I would hate to see this rare classic in the dumpster. I don't think I could afford a license to AIX. [SLE] Sound for Intel 810 chipset

Hi, I was able to install Suse Linux 6.3 on my Intel P III processor on a 810 chipset board. I tried to configure sound on my m/c but to no avail. Does OSS or ALSA support 810 chipset integrated sound card?? The sound card is recognised in Windows 95 as a SoundMax integrated digital sound card. How can i go about configuring sound on my m/c?? Please help!!! Is there anything similar to Red Hat's Kickstart or Sun's Jumpstart in SuSE? If not, could the wizards at SuSE please include this functionality in the next version of the distro. It would be a _very_ important feature to have for those of us who have to install Linux on a _lot_ of PCs. Hi I am wanting to start up a cybercafe using nothing but linux. I want on a time based useage where at the end of the payed time it goes back to the login screen. I know of a program for windows called cybertime but is there something like this for linux? Nah, I've sorted it. Edited the script compilekernel to point to the place where I extract my kernel source to. Just never used susewmif before and I was curious! I've got this habit of posting a problem to here and then sorting it myself! BTW - I can compile kernels a lot easier than susewmif by typing in the full make commands (dep,clean,modules, etc, etc). At least I know what I'm compiling and how, etc! [SLE] 6.3 upgrade fonts and Staroffice

Hi everyone. Just upgraded to 6.3 and found that all our type1 fonts had been lost from Staroffice. Fortunately they remanined intact in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 but we had to do a type1inst in that directory to get the fonts.scale file back then xset fp rehash in KDE and then reinstall them in each user's installation. I think that this may help the poster of a font question earlier on which I just deleted. Naughty. A new version of the KDE ALPHA binaries are available at nebsllc.com. Please read the README file in the same directory. Just in case you missed it "READ THE README" prior to doing anything! These binaries are built from CVS as of 22 Apr 2000 at 12:00pm Eastern Standard Time (-0500). Please bring all install questions to the un-official kde-alpha list at kde-alpha-request(a)nebsllc.com. Qt version 2.1.0 has been released. These binaries where built with the release package. You can get it here, or you can get it elsewhere, but you will need to upgrade. DEVELOPERS: the new QTDIR is /usr/lib/qt2. When you upgrade plese consider copying your old /opt/kde2 to an /opt/kde2.old directory and then installing. This way you have something to go back to. These files are available via ftp from: ftp://ftp.nebsllc.com/kde2/current or via http at: http://www.nebsllc.com (follow links for kde2 Alpha binaries) You will also be able to find these at (after a few days): http://www.htw-dresden.de/~s2697 The installs have been tested by me on a Mandrake 7.0 machine. They have also been reported to work on all other distributions. The rpm's are built with Mandrake 7.0. If you are not running the most recent version of rpm, I would suggest an upgrade. You will need to do a --force and a --nodeps on the rpm installs. If you are running prior Alpha's I highly recommend you update. There are a lot of fixes and some structural changes in the packages. I have the same log messages with my system. In addition, applications do not cause the module to get loaded automatically. [SLE] Minimum install using zipdrive possible?

Hi, I want to install suse 6.0/6.3 on a 486 with 200 MB free for partitioning etc. The only think i want to be able to do with that system is access the internet with an external isdn modem (uses AT commands), for telnet etc, no X or KDE, just a minimum install. That pc doesnt have a cdrom drive nor is it in a network. The only way i can install linux is using a zipdrive. Is that possible, and what files should i copy from the suse cd(s) to the zipdisk in order to install suse?
