[SLE] removing xconsole log from KDM screen

In order to make it a little easier for a novice computer user to use my system to access their e-mail account, I have started using the kdm login manager. One time so far, the xconsole windo with the log cames up blocking part of the KDM windo and prevented the person from acessing the shutdown button. We could not find a way to make the KDM logon window come to the top, or to minimize the xsession window, so had to go to another virtual console and do a crt-alt-delete to do the shutdown. I don't think I need a log for kdm, and would like to prevent it from starting, but can't find the control file tha calls it. sorry about the disconnected thread... Regarding books, I have my best luck going to www.dealofday.com and picking up a current internet coupon. My last book (C++ Deitel and Deitel) I got with a $10 off orders over $50 at Fatbrain.com. Not only was the book originally cheaper than amazon.com, the $10 off paid for my shipping - total cost $44 delivered vs. $61 plus shipping from Amazon and Barnes&Noble. I really like the www.dealofday.com coupons - big money savings. Well, I'm a bit confused between whether to use hex or decimal numbers in lilo but whatever I have for vga in my lilo.conf works with the vesafb and I've been using the hex numbers. I believe 0x315 (or 789) is for 800x600@16. The mode numbers are currently the same for the matroxfb and vesafb IIRC? I have to re-compile anyway because last night I missed serial support, Doh! in make menuconfig, it's one reason why I prefer make config because I don't miss anything. hello to all My is how can I setup SuSE 6.2 as a proxy server I have another computer connected to my SuSE box but I would like to be able to use my ppp connection for my second computer... I'like to know how can I do this I read the net how-to but still can't manage to get it to work.. and my last question is How can I load my eth0 at boot time... so far I had to set it all every time after boot time. thanks.. [SLE] Newbie KDE or GNOME?

Hi there, A little confused and of course personal bias cannot be denied I'm running SuSE 6.3 and was told by a Redhat specialist that Redhat was the one to stay with for long term and also that Gnome was closer to windows ease than Kde. So I went to his house to check things out and his Gnome was configured quite nicely. He showed me how easy it was for hin to get to printtool,etc.My Gnome screen is bad compared to his. Personally I was just getting used to Kde (about 2 weeks). He told me that Redhat doesn't have problems in a window mgr. like wrong letters being typed from keyboard when in Xterm window of either Kde or Gnome. I know a few of you have told me SuSE is really in itself a leader of many standards but is there any truth to the xterm thing and which do you prefer to use as far as all the above? To get rid of that locally installed package, you may just recursively delete `/usr/local/stow/PACKAGE' (and you can use `stow' to delete the links). [SLE] XFCE (stupid) QUESTION

Ok, another stupid question..... I downloaded xfce3 and want to use it. But when I try to do the following tartx xfce KDE insists on loading (Thanks to the person that told me startx accepts parameters as such!!!!!). I would have thought that xfce would have run in the same manner as gnome (startx gnome). BTW: this is on a SuSE 6.3 system. A good tarball will unpack into your current directory. Anyway, my preference is to put this stuff in /opt. Why? Because I have a separate /opt partition (lots of stuff from SuSE installs there). It is though just a matter of personal preference.
