[SLE] Installing a1 6.3 upgrades damages system

Tried to install 'a1' series upgrades for SuSE 6.3 (except for groff upgrade) using YaST, and each time shutdown sequence after otherwise successful installation reported that unmount failed for my main linux partition. Next boot fsck is run and one or two files are deleted. One time I lost my network device configuration after that. I wonder what happening? I have tried switching to runlevel 1 prior to upgrading but this does not help. I tried installing packages from FTP and from local HDD, no way. Each time I got this 'unmount failed' error. Is there safe way to upgrade my system??? [SLE] setting the lib path

Ok folks, I am not working with Linux right now, but SunSPARC. But I do believe the answer will be the same no matter want the version of Unix:) Hope you all don't mind... I have a program that needs to find a third party library file, a libfoo.so. The directory that the libfoo.so is in has been placed in the path ($PATH). But the program still cannot find it. Is there a LIBPATH or something like that? I am using tcsh. [SLE] @home cable modem in linux

Hi, everybody! I'm *still* having a really hard time with this printer. I have apsfilter, gs_both (along with all includes), and lprng installed, and I've set my NetExpress Pro card to be an SMB device. I can `lpr' any plain text file, print from pine, pico, and other console applications. I cannot, however, print from any application that requires GS to filter the output. If I try, I get a bunch of empty pages and some jibberish in between. I used YaST to configure a Samba Printer (lj5mono, //hpserver/lj_5). [SLE] How to access Linux printer (HP5L) from windoz box?

Need some help please. I can see the printer from network neighbourhood, setup done but it complaint that the printer is off-line? It also asking for password to log in? where and how to set the password? in win or under Linux?? I can print from the Linux Box at both command line and under WP8, so the printer should be ok. The 6.2 manual didn't have much on this topic. Thanks. Sam Carleton and Ken Irving had good info on how to read word docs, but does anyone know how to raed the password protected ones? Strings and fmt just kick out garbage. [SLE] Setting up a new CRON Job

My idea was to automate some back-up jobs. I went to directory /var/cron/tabs and there created a new file <rootcron> Firstly, I have the command :- < crontab -l >rootcron > next, I editied rootcron to tell it when to do what. Finally I gave the command < crontab rootcron > This had the result, to write the instructions in /var/cron/tabs/root BUT, the appointed hour came and went . . . Nothing happened :( Any clues what I should have done ? I am wondering where the pwdb module is?
