If its plain vanilla java , and does not use sytem specific code you should be ok. You can also look into tcl/tk and perl , as well as perl/tcl/tk lib that allows the use of perl unse tcl (or is it the other way around) . These are the three most popular cros platform systems used. [SLE] Trouble compiling driver for pci-ethernet c

Hi Again, I am trying to compile a driver for my pci ne2K card. I followed the instructions in the source file and compiled using this command: gcc -DMODULE -D__KERNEL__ -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O6 -fomit-frame-pointer -I/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/ -c ne2k-pci.c I got the error message saying the file must be compiled with the -O option. I did a man gcc and found out that the -O is for optimization. I see -O6 in the compile command but the man pages only show -O options up to -O2. I am using SuSE 6.0 with the standard 'full' installation. Kernel is 2.0.36. Any thoughts? Hi George, Check the files/links pertaining to shutdown, my best guess is that they got fsck'd up. I've had links become files or directories and other strange things. You may have to replace the scripts and links with good ones from another machine. Good luck, Tim P.S. [SLE] Problems with Update to SuSE 6.3

Hello, yesterday morning I updated SuSE 6.1 to 6.3. While the update I have had several problems. Maybe I also reach some people from SuSE with this mail too !!! Ok, because there was no BACK function I have had some problems after I updated the basic system. You can try abort but you'll never get back to the page before. At the end of the update I have to choose a kernel, but I abort so the system boot with my old one. Then I tried to compile a new one, but my saved kernel configuration has gone (trust me, I named it in a different way than the standard was). After I booted the sytem with the new compiled kernel I have had the next problem. My mailsystem postfix won't work anymore. Also a complete deinstallation (after saving the configs) and a new installation do not work. If I tried to start the system it failed. Before the update all processes works fine (nearly half a year). While looking for a solution I found out that the postfixsystem looks for two files (postlog and postsuper) in the directory /usr/lib/postfix. But there were no such files. After I produced this two files (with correct flags) the postfix starts with "/sbin/init.d/postfix start". Now I can send mails but I can't receive any mails (see log entries below). The new entries do not work, because it wasn't possible to start the tool "newaliases". It breaks with a message like "no file postalias in /usr/lib/postfix". A link in that directory to the original program /usr/sbin/postalias fix that problem and after the "newaliases" sending and receiving mail was no longer a problem. The updateprocess changes some more config files in /etc, so that I have had a very nice afternoon after all tools and processes works in a correct way again. Now my question: Do anyone else has had problem like this while an update to SUSE 6.3? Because I have two more systems with more difficult configurations and I want to update them too.
