[SLE] How many NFS clients can one server supports ?

Hi there, Does anyone know what is the maximum number of NFS clients that an NFS server can support ? And what is the best number(clients) for optimum performance ? [SLE] My DNS/mail server is HAL

My DNS and mail server has become sentient and exhibits traits like HAL from the movie 2001. After init [3] screen dumped and the system became unresponsive, I reset it using the reset button. Of course, fsck found an error and corrected it, but it then complained about kernel modules. As it turns out, I clobbered the modules (I guess) when I compiled the modules last month. Here's the problem: It will not respond to the keyboard, and it will not shut down. The numlock and capslock lights responds when the key is pressed, but no other key responds. So I telnet into the box and su to root. No problems. I tell it "shutdown -r now" and it says the system is going down now, and that's it. The rc6.d process is running and the K15gpm (or something like that) is running, but gpm is not killed. I can manually kill processes, but the shutdown process does not work. The system continues to resolve names and deliver mail, but I need to fix the kernel modules. [SLE] An external modem problem

Hi all, I have an external modem problem on SuSE 6.2 server. I'm using a Supra Express (56K) modem but I cannot connect to my server modem because it cannot answer. My clients computer shows " The computer you are dialing into is not answering. Try again later". [I set it up on ttyS0 and can dial out from my server.] How do I configure this problem to use the modem like RAS on Windows NT? In tinkering w/ a test DNS server, I began to play with the allow-query & acl statements included in Bind8. I was wondering if anyone know if it is possible to have BIND reference a text file to pull in the list of allowed IPs or if the list of allowed IPs can only be explicitly contained in the named.conf file itself. The O'Reilly DNS book and any other reference material I can find depicts the format for the above statement in /etc/named.conf something as follow: options { allow-query { list of IPs/24 ; etc; }; }; What I was hoping to do is substitute "list of IPs/24" w/ a path name in which the referenced file contained the list of allowable IPs rather then having to maintain this list directly in named.conf itself. The ability to query an external file to fill in a variable is similar to the query function built into the Exim MTA, for those familiar w/ the app. Any input or direction on this question is much appreciated. I am looking for a version control tool for a medium sized complex project. It involves HTML, Java, C++, JavaScript, documentation, Cold Fusion, and more. Most of our developers are Wintel centric. They need a windows GUI to do anything. I have looked at CS-RCS http://www.ComponentSoftware.com/csrcs/ . It actually looks pretty good, and the price isn't bad. I want something I can use on Unix/Linux as well. It is not clear to me what the consequences of using CS-RCS are as regards interoperating with CVS or CVSup. Does anybody have experience with this kind of stuff, and opinions on products? Hi, I downloaded the ISO image of SuSE 6.3 yesterday. I installed it last night at home, but when the CD boots it gets to the 'detecting hardware' bit, and then bombs out. I think this is where YAST 2 come in. I swapped out my Diamond Fire GL1000 Pro card (Which IS supported under the 3dlabs server), and put in an old basic trident card, I could now boot into YAST 2 and carry on. The disk partitioning section wanted to make a load more partitions, one each for '/', '/boot', '/usr' etc. I already have 4 partitions on this drive, with 4 gig, set aside for Linux. Could not find anyway of stopping this, so exited the install. Anyway I finally found out how to boot into the old YAST 1, and was able to get things installed. Set up SAX, and play around a little. What I want to know is why did YAST2 not see my original Fire GL1000 Pro card. I had to take out my sound card, to free up a ISA slot for the old graphics card to go in.
