should be ok as a Laserjet 4, a standard PCL5 printer. The new printer is an HP1100A laser. Can someone point me to the correct way of making the software change. I looked in yast but could not find reference to the hp1100. How do I change my setup to use the new printer? It is not postscript but uses HP PCL 5e language. [SLE] Email Redirection

Hi I have set up Linux as a server at my Dad's office. Is there any way of redirecting all mail sent to root and my username ('andrew') to my email address at home? Is this done via the 'aliases' file just like any other alias (i.e. 'root' is an alias for 'someone(a)somewhere.com')? If you type "free" at a console, it'll tell you how much swap space you are using & how much "real" memory is left. I have 96Mb, and even with Star Office & Netscape running it barely touches swap. You'd be best served by putting the swap partition on its own disk, or at least the fastest disk, rather than making more swap ptns. Hello, I plan on updating my old dot matrix printer which works under SuSE 6.3. The new printer is an HP1100A laser. Can someone point me to the correct way of making the software change. Just like everything else in /proc it is a pseudo-filesystem used to communicate with the kernel. If you had been able to delete it, the comp would have crashed, as /proc/kcore is the running kernel itself :-) (If I remember correctly). However, most files under /proc are read-only for everyone, so even if you wanted to, you couldn't delete them. And since they are not really files, it wouldn't have helped you anyway. A little hint: If you have no idea what a file is for, you probably don't want to delete it. This probably won't help you, but I think I know what is wrong. During the login procedure, a list of valid shells is checked. I think the file is /etc/shells. This file contains lines like the following: /bin/sh /bin/bash If the shell listed in /etc/passwd is not in this file, login will fail. Since you put your new bash in /usr/local/bin, I think you forgot to put this new location into /etc/shells. However, if you cannot get a login on the comp, this info is not of much help to you. At least now you know it for the next time you change a shell.
