[SLE] Can't print!

Hello, I was printing happy as a lark. All of a sudden, Star Office 5.1 won't print. Netscape gave me this error. Solved my own problem--sort of. The one thing I forgot to mention is that I have wireless Internet service here. My interface to that is Ethernet to a Hybrid cable modem. HELL YEA! It worked, root was allowed to login though ftp download, edit then upload the /etc/passwd file. I wouldn't of thought of that in a million years. It worked great. Thanks. You have saved me a 2 days of time since I don't have to go down their. Thank you so much, I would of been really screwed without this trick. That is somewhat of a security risk though, someone could just hurl huge amount of passwords at the root account though ftp. [SLE] Mounting CDROM

Hi all, Ive got a machine with a Diamond Fireport 40 SCSI card, Yamaha CDR400, Sony 4x and TEAC 32x CD ROM drives. Whilst I can mount the Sony drive fine, the Yamaha takes a bit of time to recognise the disk, and the TEAC refuses at all. Im going by the line in fstab of: /dev/scd1 /cdreader iso9660 ro,noauto,user 0 0 Obviously changing the directory and device name for each of the drives. When the TEAC drive is mounted, the disk spins up, but the light is on permanently, and the machine periodically checks out the other two CD ROM drives for some reason (any ideas?!?), but ultimately mount responds with an unable to mount message. When this drive was in a Win98 machine, it didn't work under DOS (did the same thing) but always worked fine in Win98 itself. I assume that this is more of a hardware problem, but is there anything I can do to make this drive work under SuSE 6.0. Im guessing that its because of drivers for the card under windows?!? but please correct me if Im wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to try, cos Id rather be burning CD's under Linux than Windows. I am trying to debug a dynamic native library I have ported from windows that is used with java 1.2. Unfortunately, I am experiencing "Program received signal ?, Unknown signal" while trying to create one of the threads in the java vm. Searching with google and a search string of "unknown signal gdb linux threads" produces a number of posts that describe this problem exactly. For example, http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/9909.0/0497.html is a post of this problem and solution by a SuSE 6.2 user posted to the linux-kernel list in early September 1999. It suggests rolling back to gdb-4.17.0.11. There IS a version of 4.17.0.12 on my 6.2 distribution and unfortunately, when i use it, I still get this "unknown signal ?" problem when I use it. It does appear that the linux thread patches have been made to this version, as I see output in the ddd's gdb window announcing the new threads as they are created: Continuing. [New Thread 2906] [New Thread 2905] [New Thread 2907] Unfrontunately for me, this is followed by: Program received signal ?, Unknown signal. [Switching to Thread 2907] Program received signal ?, Unknown signal. 0x4011cb6e in __sigsuspend (set=0xbf7ffc74) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigsuspend.c:48 ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigsuspend.c:48: No such file or directory. Trying to continue with a "signal 0" or continue just hangs the ddd/gdb session. I am going to try the .11 version. I think I have it on the 6.1 cdrom. But I guess the question is, shouldn't the .12 version on the 6.2 cd work? Believe me, any help you can give on this will be greatly appreciated. [SLE] splitting and distributing POP mailbox

I have a dial-up account which gives me a domain name, with of course, any number of email addresses (e.g. aaa(a)foo.com, bbb(a)foo.com, etc.). But all this mail ultimately ends up in one POP3 mailbox (e.g. foo(a)bar.com) How can I retrieve the mail such that it is automagically split up and distributed to userids aaa, bbb, etc. on Linux? And preferably such that these userids can still use a Netscape Communicator client. Any clues much appreciated. [SLE] 2nd X session (X -query <machine> :1)

[running 6.3] On my old 6.1 install I could run a 2nd (or 3rd, etc.) X session by doing the following: CTRL+ALT+F1 (switch to a virtual terminal) login as root run: X -query localhost :1 This would then startup another login manager and I could login as a different user with a complete new X session. This is sometimes very useful. BTW, CTRL+ALT+F7 switches back to your original session and CTRL_ALT+F8 to the 2nd one. Anyway, in 6.3 when I do the above, it start to run X, popping up the grey background and the X cursor but then bombs out saying: Fatal server error: XDMCP fatal error: Manager unwilling Host unwilling Anyone know what's wrong here?
