I first found out about it a couple of years ago when I joined it's Visual FoxPro Forum, which is now the #1 VFP forum in the world. Needless to say, you can forget the spam, porn ads, potheads, political extremists, anonymous mailers, slanders, hate-mongers and the various internet predators. You never lose messages or list entries. It will be pure Linux news, tips, help, code, etc., from your professional peers. At least, that is the way it is with FoxPro, Visual Basic, Oracle, Sybase, and the other forums. I am not suggesting that it replace this excellent mail-list server, but will be an excellent addition to your learning tool. I don't work for UT and I'm not getting a single perk for this notice. [SLE] truetype fonts in kde

Hi folks I've been trying to make KDE use the xfsft font server to get TrueType fonts into my KDE apps. Ying Zhang Mini-HOWTO at http://www.sfu.ca/~yzhang/linux/ is the route I'm taking, adding a font server using rpms rather than trying to patch and recompile the X server, which is currently way beyond me. The problem is the makefile for ttmkfdir, which produces the font.scale files. The default compiliation complains about missing library files. The enclosed README says FreeType doesn't by default produce the static library libttf.a and I should change the makefile to use libttf.so. I've tried but can't find out what to change. Despite various edits, some of which compile and some don't, I'm no nearer getting a working version of ttmkfdir. I'm using Suse 6.2 . (and yes, I know RedHat 6 has xfst built in. I'm running it on my server and having seen TrueType fonts working on it I want them on my Suse workstation as well, but the Redhat version doesn't server fonts over the network for 'security - read it was easier' reasons). Any help on this would be appreciated. I have just installed SuSE 6.2 and after all of my trial and error, I have finally gotten one distribution to actually connect to the internet(hip hip hurray). I can surf the net but it seems that I can not get any of my email. I have tried to using several email packages and the only error that I am receiving is (off the top of my head) "host not found on open server". I can be more exact when I get home. I have 3 email PoP's that I am using and I would like to collect all of the mail from those systems. I was hoping that I would be able to download them all to my system. Thanks:-) Les C. Kinda funny how at work I am a master yet when I get home my pc kicks me dead. Sorry but here it goes. I have a standard, generic, plain vanilla install of SuSE 6.1, as of last night. Is there some configuration tool that I am missing to get sound to work? I have a standard SB AWE32 sound card.
