The biggest problem with Caldera is that there is no flexibility (as in none, zip, nada). The old system tool LISA was a real b!+c# to work with, and had a nasty habit of rearranging things behind my back. I haven't even tried LIZARD yet, and I don't plan on it unless I get *really* bored one day. I'll admit to one thing: I use Linux today because Caldera gave me hope. My first system was a Slackware installation based on a 1.3 kernel. After realizing that I didn't have a freaking clue what I was doing, I gave up. A few months later, I found a Caldera Open Linux Lite 1.1 CD and decided to give it a spin. It was then that I realized why my friends liked Linux; it was fast, stable, and the price was right. I found LinuxMall one day in my random searchings, and ordered a Six-Pack Extra Large, which at the time came with COL1.2, RH5.1, Deb1.3.1, Slack3.4, LinuxPro, and SuSE 5.2. OTOH, one of the SuSE distribution's greatest strengths is it's flexibility and growth potential. hi all, Just to clarify some things to me: The configfile for X is /etc/XF86Config, right? The DAC is not a short word for Clockchip? In my case, this file contained 2 screen sections, one SVGA and one ACCEL. Sax created both of these entries. Will X use the first one in the list or will X select the "better" one by itself? What does "mach64ProgramClkmach64CT: Warning: Q < 10.66666667" try to tell me? i get this evry time i switch between console and X. Isn't Clk short for clock? what does "(--) Mach64: PCI (92) and CONFIG_CHIP_ID (124) don't agree on ChipRev, using PCI value" mean? Does it mean, i have selected the wrong Chipset? where can i get documentation on what the options in the "Expert" window for card setup in sax mean, for ex: hw_cursor ? these are questions, that evolved when i tried to resolve my problem already laid bare in a previous post. i will append it, just in case something comes up. I can get X running, but i notice, that when i scroll text or images, my cpu- 0oes bam up to 100% as long as i'm scrolling. X generaly seems a little sluggish, even compared to the known redmond ressource hog. (I have a 266mhz box with 96 M's of RAM) A friend pointed out to me , that i may have not set the clockchip correctly, so that X would fall back to some foolproof default. Since i can only see on chip saying ATI on it, i either presume it's built into the main graphix chip, or carrying some other name... Also, when i look into my xfree config file, it has two entries: one SVGA and one ACCEL entry. Could it be, that i have two Xservers installed, of whom the first one in the list (SVGA) is called? Would that mean, that i can delete the SVGA entries, and X will then use the ACCEl server? Is there a way to find out, which server i am currently running, and which version of XFree is installed? Is there a way to specify the Xserver to be used at the command line, for ex: startx afterstep -srv ACCEL , or something to that extent, so that i can still use the svga Xserver, in case something goes really bad? What advantages do you have, if you upgrade to newer versions of Xfree? And, how do I uninstall the old xfree, in order to install the new one, if that would be the recommended path to take? [SuSE Linux] problems recompiling the kernel

We want to connect apc with Suse Linux 6.1 to our Netware network, so we recompiled the Kernel with IPX support. But the process returned some errors and did not completed the process. [SuSE Linux] Star Office is screwed some KDE features?

Hello SuSE folks! After installation and registration of Star Office 5.0 included in 6.1 distro I noticed a very strange behavior of KDE some losses in its features. When I wanted to add a program shortcut on the KDE desktop I clicked on the right mouse button and in appeared sub-menu "New" I didn't see expectable topics like "Program", "Device" and so on. Where did they gone? Does it mean that SO50 is corrupting KDE environment? I wasn't aware about this. Who knows how to enable these KDE features like adding new items on the desktop again? Any help will be gladly appreciated. That is, prior to loading an MP3 player but when x11amp, or whatever is loaded, it comes up as occupying the device. I now seem to have stopped the initial error messages, but still nothing works. I would have thought as xaudio comes *advertised* on the box in big letters, it should work? I have all these MP3s, about a gig of them, and I can't listen to them... with anything - and I'm sure it's something in my set up, in particular with /dev/dsp. I read a mail from a debain newslist about having to add yourself to a user group; my /dev/dsp is crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 14, 3 Apr 15 06:14 /dev/dsp but as I said, it works with other wav files. So perhaps it isn't this. I've tried looking everywhere. As per $SUBJECT. I am now looking at putting one into my Linux box and even maybe compiling it into the kernel. Does anyone have any experience of the Ditto drives with or w/o the Accelerator cards.
