[SuSE Linux] The problem with MP3's running slow solved!

It was the sound card!!! The sb16pnp i hava is not fully supported in Linux It is almost not supported in win98... (!?!) It placed itself on DMA 0 wich my linux disliked. I swapped it with a "ordinary" sb16, which runs just fine! [SuSE Linux] Need help on fvwm.

Hello from France. I'm porting an HP-UX X11 product on Linux (Suse distribution) and i encounter a problem using fvwm window manager. I move and resize an X11 Window with the XMoveResizeWindow() API and then i wait for a ConfigureNotify event. On HP-UX (with mwm) i always get my ConfigureNotify event , even if the new position and size i give for my window are the same as the current position and size. On Linux (with fvwm / fvwm2 /fvwm95), i only get my ConfigureNotify event if the new position or size i give for my window are different from the current ones. May be there's an option in fvwm config to work the same as mwm (i've been looking in the man pages but found nothing about it) or may be it's a bug ?. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks. Hello Robert, When I'm unsure about mke2fs functionality, I usually do two things. 1) check the block size and feed that manually into mke2fs (probabally irellevant but a good safeguard.) 2) run badblocks. A basic run of badblocks can be achieved by a mere mke2fs -c /dev/hdd, although it can be run in a more intensive way. (man badblocks). You might want to stick to names you wouldn't be embarrassed by when your friends come over ;-) but other than that it's not important. A hostname should be free of whitespace and periods, and probably most other reserved UNIX magic charachters like ?*[]\/!. Most people pick a string of lowercase letters. Some examples might be 'jalepeno' or 'rockefeller'. Some UNIX oldtimers feel it should be 8 characters or less because some really crusty (badly writter) old program might burp if it is longer. The domainname for DNS purposes (what the install asks) must have at least two parts seperated by a period, such as 'hotpeppers.com' or 'captialists.gov.' This is all for what your computer will "think" of itself as. SuSE has no control over the releases on ftp.kernel.org. If you choose to update the kernel yourself, then you have to realize that you may encounter some difficulty in doing so. In my conf.modules, I have things set up like so: alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=none,none This might be a good place to start. Additionally, if you want your system to work properly with a current 2.2 kernel, you should start with the set of update RPMs on ftp.suse.com under /pub/SuSE-Linux/suse_update/SuSE-6.0/kernel. Read the README.eng and go from there. [SuSE Linux] psion palmtop and suse linux

Has anyone had any experience with commecting a Psion to a Suse linux box. I suppose I could use psi2win under wabi but.... What are the other options. The answer to this will be critical in which I chose a palmpilot or a psion. Psion seems more my style. a computer for a bike panier. However this is handled by the lp daemon, which should be running as root, and this this should not be an issue. Hi Michael, At this point I'm unsure if you are using 'kvt' windows, konsole windows, or honest-to-goodness xterm windows. Personally I detest the Xterm and never use it so know rather littes on the subject. As for the others, you should be able to resize it and then Save Settings. I'm also unsure what you mean by 'starting jstar in mutt'. I use mutt every day (check my x-mailer!) and do not have any trouble with my use of kvt's and konsoles. I _believe_ true xterms get their default size from the X resources. I don't know how you would get a different set of these when running KDE than other windowmanagers, but the likely suspects might be the various X Resources from app-defaults.. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults. Maybe the environments just happen to suck up different defaults?
