It's amazing what bugs slip through the net! It's not like lpr is a core service or anything! ;-). TIA to any other respondents, regressing to 6.2 does the trick just fine. [SLE] Suse 6.3 printcap lp0 lp1

Do you have to edit lp1 to lp0 in the printcap file for suse 6.3 the way we had to do in 6.2?? Hello, I do not have great knowledge, but your target filesystem it would appear is your 300meg /home directory. But it should be just /. Also I would suggest making the 300meg directory your /usr and the 600meg / from what I have heard you say you are going to do with this system 300 meg may be pushing the size limit for the filesystem itself and the user doesn't need too much space. Please, could someone with great knowledge tell me what partition to set the target filesystem with this 3 partitions /home 300MB, /usr 600MB and / 400MB swap will be at 128MB. so i can install my linux. [SLE] Enable one user access to /var/log/messages

I would like one of my users (not root) the ability to check /var/log/messages from within roottail, however I do not want to give *every* user access - how is the best way to accomplish this? Hi, Here is a summary of the proposal for a common source file format: - Good idea! - Waste of time, Use configure; make; make install, Most packages are for Unix, not only Linux. - Source management problems, no-one is interested in BOTH .rpms and .debs! What about experimental versions? - For experimental packages, use dselect to put a hold on the new version. - For debian, directory structure is important, not .dsc files. - Good suggestion, decision is up to the package author!! - How to ensure the .spec files are valid and functional? - Reducing incompatibility between the variants of the GNU/Linux OS'es is a useful job. - Hard to build good rpm's and deb's. Install to standard directories? What about FHS?? - GNU people participating in LSB work? - Debian is not GNU!? - After rms comments about LSB/GNU/Linux/... this thread turned into a flame war!! No more comments of technical nature any more. Sorry I thought it was an idea worth a better faith!! Binary formats: - Alien can be used, at least from .rpm to .deb - rpm format to be used for binary packages in LSB. Thanks for the help! It works now :) I just had to ad the name of the virtual domain in (yast) system administration -> network configuration -> configure sendmail -> expert mode -> domain names for local delivery Like you said, it's really simple once you know. Since then, I always use the English installation (short of reading German). One sad thing about internationalised software (I'm well placed to know :-) is that you may not fail it. When you do, users who got burned are lost forever, or almost: they never return to the localised version.
