[SLE] Automating mail for a newbie

Hi, I finally got a real modem and afterconfiguring wvdial I am now proud to display my sig file. My request- Can someone post a sample fetchmailrc file. fetchmailconfig doesn't work for me (it will not save the user information). I want to be able to have a cron job dial the ISP, collect and send the mail, perform any ftp jobs and then hang up. Can I do this with wvdial? I haven't figured out how to hang up wvdial automatically. [SLE] Suse 6.3 and Athlon

I have installed 6.3 twice. I need to be able recompile the kernel to add support for TV card. When I try to compile the kernel it errors with something about Pentium pro. I don't have a pentium pro. I have Athlon 600 and select it for the Kernel. I can compile with any other cpu type except athlon which seems kind of senseless. [SLE] Odd "Kernel Too Big" Message

Hi all, I just built a kernel for a Toshiba laptop and got a "kernel too big" message when I ran LILO, so I tried to make bzImage and got the same message. I thought this was rather odd, as this kernel is *considerably* smaller than the stock kernel. Anyone know what might be going on here? I've built lots of kernels and have never gotten this message before. However, I would say that it is not German either. To my eyes, it does not even look like it was German before being transmogriffied into something supposedly resembling English. To some extent, you are also right that a translator should be a native user of the target language. More importantly though, the translator should be fluent in the target language and (s)he should be used to communicating in that language. If those requirements are met, the nationality of the translator is less important. I'd better stop now, before this turns into a long rant. ;-) This is, after all, my field of work, and as such interests me a lot more than it would the rest of the list. Ok this has been bugging me for some time. Just a short plea to whoever has the return receipt set on their messages, please turn it off. Maybe it's just me but I see my mailer stop downloading messages to send a receipt to somebody and it is really annoying. [SLE] How is email return address generated?

I'm running SuSE 6.2 and using the Netscape Communicator mailer. Under Netscape's Preferences / Mail and Newsgroups / Identity, I have specified my email address (as distinct from my reply address) to be abrahams(a)mbs.valinet.com. My Linux user name (on my own computer) is pwa. The email that I send out acquires a strange hybrid as the sender in the header: pwa(a)mbs.valinet.com. How is that sender address generated, and which program does the generating? Is there a way to change it so that the sender will be abrahams(a)mbs.valinet.com? I've also noticed another strange thing: that if I specify under Netscape that my email address is abrahams(a)valinet.com (no ``mbs''), the mbs gets added to the return address in the header (as distinct from the sender in the header) anyway. Can anyone explain that? [SLE] Please explain the SuSE Boot Concept!!

I have read the short description of the SuSE boot concept contained in the SuSE Linux 6.3 manual. Unfortunately, it is woefully deficient. I need to: (a) modify startup scripts to load USB devices, and (b) create an intelligent module loader for my adaptec scsi card that only loads if the module is not already compiled into the kernel (my hamhanded attempts to do this have led to a dead system that boots to a kernel panic, thanks I think to the fact that the startup scripts load my scsi card twice, or possibly AFTER the USB/scsi driver), and (c) ensures that SCSI/USB is loaded AFTER my main scsi cards. The manual states that "all scripts are located in" sbin/init.d. What then about the scripts that appear in /etc/rc.config.d ??? Are these just "extra"? They do not appear to be merely links (at least not all of them). There are a bunch of usb scripts (just look at the output from find -iname *usb* executed from /etc and then from /sbin), many of which appear to be duplicates. Which one(s) do I need to edit? Are the ones in /sbin the "master" copies? What is the INITRD variable in rc.config? Thanks in advance for any help. And, anyone who has a USB Zip drive working using SuSE, PLEASE email back with details!!! [SLE] CDROM IDE problem with 6.3

I installed 6.3 and recompiled the kernel.
