[SLE] Dialout with Nokia 9110

Hello again Is there a way of setting up my Nokia 9110 as the default modem on Com1 (tts0 ?). The reason being that my land line is particularly noisy and connection speed is generalyy 4800 or less !! Under MicroDoze its simple to use the 9110 as all drivers are available. Is it possible to link the Star Office mail side to wvdial for automatic connection to ISP or do you always need to connect using kppp, for instance, and then make the mail connection seperately ( I hope that made sense, it doesn't to me). Hi There, I just installed rh 6.1 for trial and i liked the GNOME thing, can we have GNOME run with the great kde from suse 6.2 ? Should i Just run GNOME alone or it plus KDE ? will running both waste of resources ? I really like the Gnome feature like auto-cd insert, etc any suggestions ? ALi makes core logic chipsets (like Intel and VIA), which are not problematic in and of themselves, but often cause problems with other components (video cards in particular). The biggest problem with ALi chipsets are the AladdinV and Riva TNT video cards. AFAIK, these problems have yet to be resolved. Expounding on the AMD processor issue, there were some problems with the first-generation K6-2's, which were resolved after the first two batches. You have nothing to worry about if you buy a new CPU instead of a used one. I ran a K6-2 350 for ~6 months, and I was very pleased with it. Hello all, I updated my bios and everything seems to be working fine..accept now Linux has lost what the mem size is..it's 256, but it's only seeing 64 megs. Do I have to recompile the kernel to get it to see it all..or do I have to put that append line in lilo..( BTW..what is the append line and do I put it as the first line in lilo? ) Damn this is a pain..BTW..the mb is a SuperSocket 7 board w/ an AMD K6-III 400 on it..and it saw the mem find before the update... [SLE] WinLinux2000

Hello All, someone gave a link to WinLinux2000, so of course, I had to get it. Anyone install it yet? After about a twelve hour download, I got it installed, but now I'm getting a kernel panic, and I really hate panicky kernels. I have two hard drives: Maxtor 10Gig (/dev/hda1,2,3) w/ SuSe 6.2 on it only. Lilo is on the MBR of this drive. Also a Western Digital 4.3Gig w/ Win98, /dev/hdb. Lilo boots everything just fine. WinLinux2000 is installed on this drive. All went well, and the kernel boots, but I get: kernel panic, can't mount root fs, no init, request-module [block-major-8] device 08:01, etc, etc. I can't get to a virtual terminal and what files I've been able to edit through Windows, has achieved nothing. I admit I'm still somewhat of a newbie, though I could deal w/ server probs and the like, but this has me at a standstill. I would appreciate any and all help and/or advice. Hi all I am trying to make my old 486 run as efficient as possible... in my top output i have 7 nscd \ 6 mingettys > do i real need all them? about 12 httpd / md_thread // isn't this for combining hds into a logical drive? what webserver would you recommend for a private page, nothing big, without whiz bang and gizmos, i think apache might be hogging up a lot of the ressources, are there slimer httpd, that are any good? What about roxen, is it worth a try? I'm setting up my first DNS server with SuSE 6.2. The problem I'm having is that there is a lack of documentation for doing this on SuSE. The documentation I've looked at so far has all the /var/named/ files in different areas. Where can I find more info on setting up a DNS server with SuSE Linux?
