[SLE] FTP problems when using Linux as Gateway

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right mailing list for this question but I hope you'll help my anyway. I've set up a Linux box (SuSE 6.2, Kernel 2.2.10) to use it as a gateway to the internet for my LAN. Well, I'm new to Linux but so far I had no big problems. I use http (IE5, NSN 4.5)) from the clients as well as e-mailing (Outlook Express). I'm able to read newsgroups and even ICQ works fine except file transfers. That's one problem and there is one more that's much more important to me is that I'm unable to us FTP (WSFTP). Here's the log file from WSFTP: connecting to 212.172.52.2 ... Connected to 212.172.52.2 port 8989 220-Serv-U FTP-Server v2.4a for WinSock ready... Host type (1): Serv-U 220 Willkommen auf dem GamesZone Fileserver ! USER tibde-staff 331 User name okay, need password. PASS (hidden) 230 User logged in, proceed. PWD 257 "/c:/server/web/docs/tsgalaxy/news-stuff" is current directory. Host type (I): Serv-U PORT 192,168,0,2,6,154 200 PORT Command successful. LIST 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls. And that's the point where nothing goes on anymore. I never get to se the directories and files on my server. I really have no idea what I might have to change to get FTP working but I guess you might have an idea (I at least hope so...). One more datail that might be important. Below you'll find the commands I use to enable ip masquerading on my Linux box. The Linux box itself has IP-Number 192.168.0.1 and is connected by modem to my local ISP. echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward ipchains -P forward DENY 1 ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 -j MASQ ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.3/255.255.255.0 -j MASQ I'd be glad if you could help me on that because I really need access to my website again... [SLE] ATAPI CD-WRITER

Hey folks, I did it! Everything is working! The problem was the setup of X-CD-Roast, I selected "Image-Partition 1" as the temporary disk space, but I don't have a separate partition for copying compact discs. All I had to do is set "Image-Data-Path" to the default and select an image mount-point... After downloading execute this patchprogram. StarOffice 5.1 patch for disabling the registration mechanism. I'm running SuSE 6.2 on a Dell OptiPlex PII300. Now, I'm trying to get my scanner running. I selected a SCSI kernel when installing to support the AvantSys card. On bootup, the card finds the scanner fine and Linux appears to find the device as well. I run sgcheck and the device is shown. First, I followed the directions in the manual for sane, making a link /dev/scanner to /dev/sg0. A scanimage --list-devices doesn't show the scanner. So, I go to YAST to setup the scanner. When I go to save the settings, Yast warns me that the device appears to be a disk drive. My only drive is IDE, so I chose to continue. Still, no cigar. O kinda new at this..so what am I doing wrong? Linux does only think I have 13MB ram. By running the boot disk, then waiting for linuxrc, Checking system information: total mem 13244kb mem free 9556kb If I check kernel messages: 12528k/15360k mem my 486 has 16MB Total mem 14248. The P233 has / is running win98 with no problems. The bios sees 96MB How can I fix this?? The manual talks about syslinux and mem=96M but is not clear on how to set this up. Please help as I am soooo frustrated with a slowwww machine. [SLE] Ver 6.2 / Star Office Slow

I am new to Linux and have purchased the SuSE 6.2 kit. I have installed (Clean setup) on 486 / 16MB / 1.2GB HDD / Trident 512KB video. Set up X windows. Configuration menu's in Xwin are too big and cannot see the bottom buttons. System very slow. Installed Star Office and impossible to use as software is so slow. Set up on my home computer. P233 / 96MB/ 4.3GB HDD / S3 - S375 video. Install was much quicker but runs slow. Installed Star Office and is still impossible to use as software is so slow. I have set up HP printer OK. I have set up Modem OK and connect to the net via wvdial then netscape. Netscape still slow but usable. We are keen to learn and use Linux in our High School (I am the IT Technician), but at this speed it is no go. Any help please.
