/etc/conf.modules is a `master file' of sorts. The kernel depends on this being edited properly for any modules to load. It's not a complicated file, it's just large. Last I checked, Hubert did a wonderful job of commenting it so that anyone can read what any section does. I use pico as an editor at the prompt, but kwrite or kedit under X/KDE might be a better way to look at such a large file. [SLE] Kernel "Panic"

Originally, I had been using a boot disk for Linux. Then, I set up LILO to boot up Linux and Win98, each on a separate HDD. I needed to reinstall Win98, so it overwrote the MBR and LILO. Win98 boots up OK, but I'm lost on how to access Linux. I tried using the boot floppy for my configuration, but it appears that some mount points may have changed, because the boot process stops with a "kernel panic...". My SuSE original boot disk is bad (see other posting!), so I'm trying to figure how to fix this, rather than reinstalling SuSE. I do not have a rescue disk (ugh!). What?!?! You can buy it directly from SuSE in Oakland for less than that with shipping! Where are you geographically? I got an ISO for 6.2 from: ftp://ftp.linuxberg.com/pub/ISO/SuSE I'll warn you though, even over a cable modem don't expect to get more than 50k/sec. The server is also limited to =<240 connections, which is a very *small* number. You might have to retry a few times. Get the disk for your disk subsystem and the modules disk from here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/6.2/disks/ and, using Linux or another *nix, use `dd if=./eide01 of=/dev/fd0' where eide01 is the disk image you recieved. Same for modules. Otherwise, you'll find them in the direcory /disks on the first CD-ROM ;). As we've said time and time again, you can't do that. Going from 6.0 to 6.1 is really easy. Going from 6.0 (or 6.1, for that matter) to 6.2 is equally easy, assuming that you do it the *right* way. The right way involves lots of swapping CD's and booting off of a floppy (or CD001, if you have El Torrito extensions in your BIOS :). To avoid this hassle, I always install from an Evaluation CD, and simply add the packages I want later.
