Linux does only think I have 13MB Ram, I have 96MB. I have tried added mem=96M into the lilo.cnf This still makes no difference. [SLE] Award BIOS 1996 + 128mb DIMM

Hi all, Not too sure about this one. I ordered 128mb DIMM (66MHz) (66MHZ x2 = 133MHz, same as the processor speed.), put it in, but the BIOS and SuSE report only 32mb being in there. I've called the distributor of the ram to check that they did ship 128 and not 32 (the obvious point of error), but they did ship 128. Has anyone had this type of problem, can anyone suggest a get-around? Can SuSE ignore the bios where memory is concerned? If so, how? I've been all over the BIOS with a fine-tooth-comb but come up with nothing that could be limiting if from what I can see. Any help is appreciated. I have just run xosview and I think linux thinks I only have 13MB. The Mem graph is blue then red most of the time and the Swap Graph is 10 - 14MB. At present everything is slow to react any help please. [SLE] StarOffice passwords to unlock StarBasic Macros?

The supplied StarOffice 5.1 Macros have a password lock on them. Anyone know what the password is? I've tried the usual suspects: my key, my email addr, the words 'pass', 'password' and several others, and I've gone rummaging around the www.sun.com site to no avail. I guess I could record some tasks and look at my own macros, but several of the things I want to do can't be done by recording keystrokes. I take it that SO doesn't want users to have access to those macros to preserve some functionality that they depend on. All I want to do is look at the coding and learn the StarBasic Reserve Words and parameter syntax, since the 'help' barely mentions the topic. Unusual help, more like sophisticated html pages liked linearly. Aside from the help, SO 5.1 is a superb software package. StarOffice-Linux reminds of another combination twenty years ago - VisiCal-Apple. VisiCalc was the 'killer-app' that skyrocketed Apple sales amoung computer neophytes. A free copy of StarOffice setting on top of a free copy of Linux is reason enough to purchase a computer! SO setting on top of KDE setting on top of SuSE 6.2 is a dynamite combination! There seem to be two or more machines that are mapped to ftp.suse.com. The problem is that the two machines are not in sync. I am using mirror, and am getting the same rpm that is only different by build, i.e. someprogram0.0-10.rpm and someprogram0.0-11.rpm. I am currently getting the lesser of the numbered builds so, it is not that the programs are updated. I suppose I can figure out how to stop this and will try, but it seems that SuSE could try to keep the servers in sync. Also the following from www.suse.com is kinda useless as the link in 1. takes you to 2. So who do I send feedback to? No, I am not going to call. 1.) [SLE] SuSE's kernel compilation options

Hi all, Where can I find the .config file which SuSE used to compile the kernel for 6.2? Having just come from Red Hat I don't like the time it takes to still not find this information. Red Hat has the kernel and the modules in a kernel-???.i386.rpm, the kernel source in another binary(!) rpm called kernel-source-???.i386.rpm, and the source rpm is called kernel-???.src.rpm. The source rpm contains all .config files for the various SMP etc kernels shipped. With SuSE, the kernel is called, well, base, aaa_base, aaaaa, aaaaaaa, haahaaaaaaa, whatever. Is that necessary? I certainly don't find it useful when grep'ing for something like kernel/source/vmlinuz/etc. Worst, /boot/vmlinuz isn't even owned by any package!!!!!!!! How did that file get there? Where from? Modules are in kernmod, fine, though I don't particularly see why having them separately is an advantage. Kernel headers (required for compiling most things) are in linclude. The kernel source is called linux - I even found it after some searching. All these are binary rpms. There is no source rpm. This is a major mess - tidying that up shouldn't be all that hard, so PLEASE. For the time being, could someone please speak up if I overlooked the file, or else would SuSE care to post it? Being able to recreate things by running rpm on the source rpm is a feature I expected of an rpm-based system. I would like to recompile the kernel but only change one thing at a time (or only one thing at all). I just got my SuSE 6.2 disks and updated from 6.1. I have a couple of Linux computers plus a couple of Windows computers sharing files with Samba on a home network. It all works fine. I have been using a dial-up connection to an ISP with Linux, plus a separate dial-up connection for my Windows machines. Since the connection is so slow I didn't feel the need to run everything through the Linux box. This Thursday they are coming out to install my cable modem. They have instructed me to have a Windows computer available so they can install and test the line. From there I am on my own as far as Linux is concerned. I need to use Linux on a dedicated old Pentium so Windows and Linux computers will share the cable connection. I need to keep the crackers out. I don't even know the terminology surrounding firewalls, filters, gateways, masquerading, so I don't even know what I am looking in resources. The NFS protocoll depends on clients being trustable. That means e.g. when a server exports users' home directories to other hosts, it relies on these hosts to make sure users are who they say they are. If someone therefore hacks the client and pretends to be someone else (this could probably also be done with some network-fiddling) the server has no way of knowing. Authentication is done on teh client host by the client's OS. Chose your clients carefully... you might not have a choice though. Basically, if yo have files which you only want to have acessible to some but not other users things are tricky. Otherwise it's fine, e.g. exporting your cdrom drive or our /usr/local to everyone@everyhost. As long as you export read-only - this flag is handled by the server and therefore would have to be hacked there, not on the clients. Any write-requests (real or faked) would be ignored by the NFS server. Keep in mind that in the case of /usr/local, if you have files there you only intend for root forget it. NFS filesytems from other hosts without those 3 daemons (I think), but for exporting/sharing you need to have those daemons running.
