Anyone want to take a stab at answering a my SCSI error question ? What caused this error ? CD audio: SCSI command error on /dev/scd1: Opcode=0x42 Status=0x1 Msg=0x0 Host=0x0 Driver=0x28 Key=0x5 Code=0x24 Qual=0x0 Tried to get it to read an audio CD and got that error. SCSI2 50pin device with no other error messages. hello for about a year i was using FreeBSD, but because of some troubles i recently had with it, i switched to SuSE. [SuSE Linux] Xfree and commercial Xservers

Could anyone point me to a source of information re: available Xservers for Linux other than Xfree?Is there a difinitive list anywhere? Also I have just visited a site running Xi servers on Solaris and they seem to be considerably faster than our similar spec machines running standard Sun Xservers, Can anyone pass on their experience of commercial servers for Linux and the relative merits and problems of the Xi and Metro products? I am new to this list so please accept my apologies if discussions concerning commercial products are considered to be against the spirit of this list. I've dumped my ppp0 interface to control if all IP packets generated by my LAN are routed correctly and to find out why diald won't kill down the connection to my ISP also if i've no activity over the PPP link and found some interesting things... let show you. First of all i've found LCP echoreq thats sounds good to me but latter i found this:" 23:28:36.026519 nas0.mo.nettuno.it > IGRP-ROUTERS.MCAST.NET: ip-proto-88 40 [tos 0xc0] " which for me is quite interesting. I got my idea why this packet are reaching my ppp0 interface, this sounds like gated and/or routed packet thats my ISP's routers are sending to me... ?! I've no idea if my interpretation is good or not but if so i wish to know why my ISP's router(s) is sending to me its routing table or even more information. If anyone out there can help me to understand this i'll please him. P.S. of course nas0.mo.nettuno.it is one of the addresses of my ISP's router/gateway and is listed on my personal routing table as destination for ppp0 and as default route even more for ppp0. [SuSE Linux] Using Old Install

I just installed Wabi on my SuSE 5.3 machine, which has been dual boot, Linux and Win3.1, for years. The reason for the Win3.1 has been solely to run one application, and now I'm hoping Wabi will eliminate the need for booting dos/mswin ever again. So, in anticipation of running this app under Wabi, I'm trying to figure out how to "install" the app without actually digging out the old app disks, if they even still function, and wiping out all the configuration that's gone on within this thing over the years. This old 16-bit version is no longer current/supported by the app vendor, and I want to stay with the version I run, for many reasons. I assume I need to move the application files from the dos partition to a "drive" that's actually a directory in my home filesystem, and that I need to add stuff in wabi's .ini file to let wabi know of the app. What else do I need to do? I also assume that all future activity will take place in e2fs-land, and that once I'm comfortable that the app is running correctly, I can reclaim that dos partition for Linux use. Yes? The app uses a hardware dongle on the parallel port. Does this mean I need to configure printing in wabi? If so, how, exactly? I don't have a printer connected to this machine, just the dongle, so I've never bothered configuring any dos printing. Sorry if this is a FAQ; I haven't seen it in the list recently. Problem: lpq on printer reports "Warning: no daemon present" Have set up printer in printcap file as follows: axis|Axis print server :lp=:\ :rm=GP30:\ :rp=pr1:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/gp30: I have tried pr1 and PR1 as queues on remote printer. I know this queue exists (can address it using LPR from Win NT) I have chown'd the spool directory to daemon. Lpc reports the daemon is running for this printer (printing enabled, daemon started.) This is the output from lpq: lp_serv1:/var/spool # lpq -Paxis Warning: no daemon present Rank Owner Job Files Total Size 1st root 11 /etc/printcap 3287 bytes 2nd root 12 /etc/printcap 3287 bytes 3rd root 13 /etc/printcap 3287 bytes printer GP30 is in the /etc/hosts file as follows: 192.168.0.202 GP30 AXIS_GP30 I can ping "GP30" OK. Ls -l of /var/spool is as follows: drwx------ 2 at at 1024 Jan 19 16:43 atjobs drwx------ 2 at at 1024 Jan 19 16:43 atspool drwxr-xr-x 2 fax uucp 1024 Jan 19 16:43 fax drwxr-xr-x 2 daemon root 1024 Jan 25 09:48 fiery drwxr-xr-x 2 daemon root 1024 Jan 25 09:57 gp30 So owner is daemon, group is root. This works for another remote printer, "fiery". Any suggestions? Hi, After upgrading to XFree86 3.3.3.1 on my SuSE 5.3, running The Gimp and ImageMagick crashes the X server.
