[SuSE Linux] TKDesk and ne2k-pci.o problem

Hello, Further to my earlier postings, I have now got my network up and running, well at least able to ping each other. However TKDesk still locks up the whole computer when the network is enabled. /sbin/init.d/network stop allows TKDesk to run fine. Is this a known issue or is it unique to this driver, Hardware Linksys Etherlan PCI II at io=0xfce0 irq=9 driver = ne2k-pci.o SuSE Linux 5.2 I would relly appreciate advice on this as I do like TKDesk. These are supposed to make it easier for the system administrator to administer "your system". It also allows the transmisssion of Microsoft OCX controls, just like Microsoft explorer does. This results in, essentially, un- virus scanned code being run on your computer without your knowledge. In addition Microsoft back office , in conjuntion with Microsoft Office allows a whole new group of "macro viruses", essential Word, Excel, etc. document extensions, written in Visual Basic to be run on your system without your explicit knowledge. CONTRACEPTIVES '98 by Microsoft -Submitted by Chris Keen ============================== News just in of Microsoft's latest venture: Microsoft Corporation has taken another step toward dominating every aspect of American life with the introduction of Contraceptive98, a suite of applications designed for users who engage in sex. Microsoft has been a pioneer in peer-to-peer connectivity and plug and play. It believes these technologies will give it substantial leverage in penetrating the copulation enhancement market.The product addresses two important user concerns: the need for virus protection and the need for a firewall to ensure the non-propagation of human beings. The Contraceptive98 suite consists of three products: Condom98, DeFetus 1.0 (from Sementec), and AIDScan 2.1 (from Norton Utilities). A free copy of Intercourse Explorer 4.0 is bundled in the package. The suite also comes in two expanded versions. Contraceptive98 Professional is the Client/Server edition, for professionals in the sexual services sector. Contraceptive98 Small Business Edition is a package for startups, aimed at the housewife and gigolo niches. While Contraceptive98 does not address nontraditional copulatory channels, future plug-ins are planned for next year. OPERATION: Only one node in a peer-to-peer connection needs to install the package. At installation, the Condom98 software checks for minimum hardware. If the user meets the requirements, the product installs and is sufficiently scaleable to meet most requirements. After installation, operation commences. One caution is that the user must have sufficient RAM to complete the session. When the session is complete, a disconnect is initiated, and the user gets the message, it is now safe to turn off your partner. DRAWBACKS: Usability testers report that frequent failures were a major concern during beta testing. General Protection Fault was the most serious error encountered. Early versions had numerous bugs, but most of these have been eliminated. The product needs to be installed each time its used. CONCLUSION: Contraceptive98 is a robust product. Despite its drawbacks, it is reasonably good value for its $49.95 price tag, and is far superior to its shareware version. Hopefully, future releases (of the software, that is) will add missing functionality, such as Backout and Restore, uninterruptible Power Supply, and Onboard Camera. Hello: I need help! I am trying to install S.u.S.E. Linux 5.2. I have found the installation generally straight forward except for one thing, I can't get my network card to work. It is a LinkSys EtherPCI LAN CARD II which is reported by the set up program as an ne2000 clone. This coresponds with the information given by LinkSys on their web site which recommends the ne2k-pci.o driver. Under Win98 the card works fine with TCP/IP and is reported at i/o 0xFCE0 - FCFF and irq=9, but seems undetectable under Linux, it is either reported as absent or "device busy" when atempting to load the correct module. Having tried every possible combination of settings I can find I am now at a loss. The following messages are displayed at boot time; Setting up network device eth0 SIOCSIFADDR: No such device SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device which I realise means the driver isn't installing despite being set up in YAST Can you please provide a step by step guide to setting this card up from the root prompt(I am a unix newbie)or point me in the right direction. I normally try to work things like this out for myself but this time I am completely confused. [SuSE Linux] Who knows PAM?

Has anybody worked wtih Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) in S.u.S.E. ? I added it because it was needed by the KDE rpm I fetched from <A HREF="http://www.foyer.se"><A HREF="http://www.foyer.se</A">http://www.foyer.se</A</A>>. It looks like I need to do some more work to get it to run. I believe I have seen this same problem in reverse with KDE on Solaris, I assume this is because I _didn't_ have PAM installed there. I get a login prompt from KDE, but logins always fail. I have found some html pages for PAM that came with the rpm and will be reading them. I am just wondering if anybody knows the fast and dirty solution to gettin a PAM enabled KDM to work. [SuSE Linux] Problems Compiling the kernel!!!!!

Hi I installed SuSE linux 5.3 for the first time today I am impressed!!!! The problem I am having is that when I try to compile the kernel I always get 2 errors. The question I have is this when compiling the kernel on an AMD k6 how should I declare my cpu??? I declared it as a Pentium. Is this wrong??? I am running xi graphics' cde and my passwords are served by an NIS server. cde seems to have some trouble with the shadow passwords and won't let anybody login other than root. Does anybody know how to remove shadow passwords and start using normal passwd? [SuSE Linux] KDM Config

I have been trying to set up the KDM login screen. My KDE menue offers the variables for the Desktop and it looks every time like I have successfully changed it, but I always get the same old XDM login screen. I had this working once before (previous installation) and can't see why it is failing now. This is true on both of my boxes. Help?
