[S.u.S.E. Linux] Athena Network Card

I lent a friend my Suse 5.0 cd's. He is having a problem getting the system to recognize his/the school's Allied Telesyn AT2000 network card. It is an NE2000-compatible card, which the Suse online support db says bad things about. But the card doesn't freeze the system, the system can't even get the network going. Also, there is no /dev/eth0. Any ideas, anyone?? - mikeh P.S. Hi all, Once again I'm having hell with my printer. I've an old HP Deskjet 500 with an APS filter. I printed part of a file with "lpr -Praw file". This printed fine, but now it will not print at all. I tried "lpc clean all" and still will not print. I even resetup the aps filter. When I do "lpc stat" I get this: ascii: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present lp: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present raw: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present I believe this means that my lpd daemon is dead, am I right? And if so what do I do to get it restarted? Hi fellows Howto mount SCO-part.ID#63 and access the content ? fdisk shows: Partition ID: 63 GNU HURD To resque data and apps residing on an old SCO partition, I first made a copy of the partition (Powerquest DriveImage) and transferred it to another SCSI and also to an IDE drive. There on a new machine I installed SuSE, Caldera and was unable to mount the partition with the driver: sysv (I checked that the sysv is available as module in both distrib. and I loaded it manually and checked - Ok.) The sysv is meant to mount SCO, XENIX and Coherent, but I cannot find info about the supported IDs. Then I installed SCO OpenServer 5 on the same machine, to make shure I have the same ID# and try to mount the old part. with the new SCO. This experience was very disappointing, since SCO creates ONE partition with the ID# 63 and puts it's own work partitions inside this ONE ! Using SCO, I tried to mount the old partition, but SCO is unable to see any foreign partitions on the drive - strange for me, life seems more convenient if using Linux. One AIX guy also had no answer for that, he told me, that AIX behaves like Linux concerning the partitions. (The idea using a new SCO was to mount the old part., then transfer all content from SCO-box to a Linux box using NFS) I still need to access the content of this old SCO partition. Can anybody help me with this issue - please ? Experience ? Hy there I bought Wabi for Linux to run Word in it. After the installation I got problems with the current color depth. I'm using a default depth of 16 bit. When wabi starts the only result is that I'm get the message: X Server has unsupported default depth Unrecoverable Error in Wabi Unsupported display depth 16 in init_gdi. Wabi will exit now. I tried it with using 8 bit as the default depth and it works. Is there a possibility which enables wabi to work under 16 bit color depth ?? I got the problem solved:-) The problem was with the apache server that was installed with Suse 5.1. All I could find was the bineries. Had to get the sources to recompile to enable proxy service. So, I went to the Apache website and downloaded version 1.3b. Configured, Made it, Installed it, Now both the linux box and the Win95 box can access the internet at the same time:-) Still got some minor bugs to work out, but that will happen within the next few days:-) I did find that script at the suse site, but for some strange reason it didn't work to well on my system (also discovered that it was the same script in the Firewall documentation on my system) Also I did discover that there was already a firewall script set up in /sbin/init.d:-) Now, the next little project is to set up the linux box to automatically go out and get the mail, deliver it to the various user's home mail slots, then set up a pop3 server on Linux so that when someone logs in on Win95, they can get their mail (or send it and it will be saved until the "mail script runs again":-) Thanx Loads! -- cya l8r Leon McClatchey <A HREF="mailto:leonmcclatchey@homemail.com">mailto:leonmcclatchey@homemail.com</A> Party on Linux:-) -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo(a)suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
