I don't know why but when I installed SuSE 5.1 on my machine this last time, (And picked almost all to install) Sound worked with a simple rplayd and a module click. Maybe it is OSS working, but I do not think so. I set up the cdrom player and it works wonderfully. The first couple times I set up I did not load "almost everything" and these systems were severly handicapped in a lot of ways, So if you want to use some cool features, Insist on almost everything..... I can boot from disk. Then I followed the instructions, partions, change type, format, the when it came to mount point and file systems I got lost. The book does not seem to explain it very well. I want the computer to only run Linux as I want to learn UNIX, X-Windows, Perl, etc. I had NT work Station running before with no problem, server and workstation work fine over network. [S.u.S.E. Linux] linuxconf?

Hey again. I would like S.u.S.E. to integrate linuxconf into their future distributions, since it complements yast quite nicely and is available in both commandline, CLI and GUI form. Calling it from yast should be possible (preferably a specific part of it. Could be really cool. My main reason for this letter: It seems that suse-announce-e is rather, well, low on activity. Couldn't it be made so that new product announcements as well as new updates to older products and KDE (etc) is listed there with URLs and preferably a description. I too am having similar problems to others with my HP Deskjet now that I have upgraded to SuSE 5.2 Basically ASCII files no longer print out properly with the RAW driver. I get a resultant collection of lines of errors. The solution would be much appreciated. I'll try and pick it up tomorrow or later tonight. But first I'd like to get the program installed. I'm just getting a little frustrated. Guess I'll call tech support soon. I cannot seem to be able to install 5.1. I find the manual very poorly written. Can someone please help. My had drive is partitioned as follows C: 1219, D: 476, E: 191, F: 75. The only reason that I installed DOS was to have an operating sys. Since I am using a 486 with an old BIOS I am forced to use a disk manager program. I want the computer to be used only for Linux. If anyone can give me step by step directions it would be greatly appreciated. I tried to install all the packages and received a message that installation failed. The only reason I want to get this up and going now is to learn UNIX, Perl, and hook it up to my network. Sorry for the length of this post but I am getting very frustrated. Hello. I' m getting lots of messages like these in /var/log/mail Apr 29 16:49:48 localhost sendmail[1661]: My unqualified host name (localhost) unknown; sleeping for retry Apr 29 16:50:48 localhost sendmail[1661]: unable to qualify my own domain name (localhost) -- using short name Sendmail is working in queued mode and all seems to work fine... but what do these messages mean? What did I miss? I' ve also seen that, if I type "mailq", the answer is printed exactly 60 seconds after the request and, in /var/log/mail, each of two messages is delayed exactly 60 seconds (if you see, 16:49:48 - 16:50:48). Is there anything wrong? Thanks for your answer. Bye. [S.u.S.E. Linux] Problems with fvwm2 or X?

Sometimes, when I startx, I can't open anything with the fvwm2 menu. I just right or left-clicked my mouse, choose an option in the menu, and nothing happens. Once upper icons (xeyes, the clock and so) did not apear. I don't know why. I'm talking about the defect fvwm2 that comes with suse (wich I like very much, by the way). Any suggestions? Thanks. [S.u.S.E. Linux] suse 5.2 headaches (kernel compile)

I have had a lot of trouble with recompiling the kernel under 5.2. Am I the only one?? The main reason I am recompiling is to enable ppp so I can connect to the internet. (this message ala win95 :-( Is it possible to install the kernel source from 5.1 into 5.2?? If so, just the lx_suse package?? I never had any problems with 5.1 compiling and I miss that!!
