[opensuse-factory] new Firefox feature (call for help)

Hi, recently there was a feature request on the opensuse list (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2009-06/msg00297.html) about the fact that openSUSE's Firefox doesn't offer the packaged plugins in its plugin finder service. So I looked into it what would be needed to support that feature in our Firefox and created https://features.opensuse.org/306475 out of it. I'm copying my last comment here for completeness: ---------- A short overview what's needed to make this feature as complete as possible: 1. client support in Firefox to ask a webservice for available plugins and hook into the package installer to install the chosen plugin 2. a webservice which provides the required data to Firefox 3. a job which fills the webservice's database with available plugins The code for 1. and 2. is done in the Firefox extension "susefox" now. It's already pretty complete and usable (only some minor issues left and translations missing). For 2. a hosting platform is needed where I'm not sure if it should be opensuse.org or opensuse-community.org as we could refer to more plugins for the latter probably. For 3. nothing is really available yet. The reason is that our package metadata is missing information we would need to detect mozilla plugins. For the current implementation the database is created manually but I consider this pretty much impossible for a production service. ---------- So actually to finish this feature (if it's seen to be useful, otherwise please tell me so I stop investing time into it) I would need some help - to get the Firefox UI translations in place for as much locales as possible (it's really not much to translate right now) - to find a hosting area (currently it's running on my personal server) (to be able to offer problematic plugins it could make sense to use opensuse-community.org?) (it's a python script running through mod_python) - to get ideas how to solve 3. - if 3. is hard to solve or takes time we can consider to fill the database manually to get started but that would need some help to collect the needed information So that's basically about that feature but if you got any feature requests for Firefox about its openSUSE integration please read on: As there is now an openSUSE specific addon we can add more distribution specific things to it. In theory a lot of stuff can be done with the extension to customize Firefox a bit more to fit openSUSE but there are two issues: 1. ideas what would be useful 2. people doing the implementation So if you got any ideas or have some experience in writing Firefox extensions (or want to learn it) please tell me! [opensuse-factory] crap! npviewer.bin eating 58% of my CPU kde 4.2.96

Listmates, WTF is wrong with npviewer.bin? I have kmail, konqueror and konsole open and top shows this adobe npviewer.bin running constantly and eating 1/2 my cpu. This never happened with 4.2.90 or 4.2.95. What broke in 4.2.96? Do I just need to trash this buggy npviewer and uninstall it some how? What gives? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse-factory] List of valid licenses for packages?

Hi, Today I got a bunch of new packages rejected for Factory because of an inexact license tag in the spec file ("GPL" instead of "GPLv2 or later"). How is a packager supposed to know? What are acceptable strings in the license tag? Package flash-player already has Provides symbol for mimetype: $ rpm -q flash-player --provides netscape-plugins libflashplayer.so mimetype(application/x-shockwave-flash) flash-player = 10.0.22.87-0.1.1 But that's not true for java or moonlight packages. [opensuse-factory] No "skip" feature in Yast2 SW Managment?

Listmates, After updating to factory Yast2, I am surprised to find there is no "Skip" option to choose in the event of a failed package during install. Today, attempting an update, all "cairo" packages failed due to freetype errors. Once the package failed, the only options were to "ignore" (a no-no) "abort" (not what I wanted to do after protecting 5 packages out of a list of 43) or "cancel" (how this is different that abort escapes me). All I wanted to do was "skip" the failed package and continue installing the rest. Where has the "skip" option gone?? Bug or feature? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse-factory] konsole rt-click over tabs context menu gone

Listmates, Here is a copy of the bug filed earlier today. Is this a KDE only bug or is this also suse related? kde 4.2.95 on openSuSE. konsole right-click on tabs context menu has disappeared. I was trying to access the normal "detach session" (kde3) or "detach view" (kde4) option in konsole by right-clicking over the tab I wanted to detach. The context menu is gone. Nothing happens when I right-click over the tabs at the bottom of konsole. I know this was working in an earlier kde4 beta 2 snapshot (4.2.88 or 4.2.90 I can't recall), but it is definitely gone now on openSuSE 11.0. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199477 -- David C. [opensuse-factory] cairo Package errors?

Listmates, One update that continues to appear is cairo and related packages (-doc, -debug, etc..). The install error is: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: open of /var/cache/zypp/packages/subpixel failed: No such file or directory error: open of repository/i586/cairo-32bit-1.6.4-999.subpixel.1.x86_64.rpm failed: No such file or directory This is on an x86_64, why am I getting an error on an i586 package?
