[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. Changes to dbus packaging (Some Attention maybe required).

Hi All, For Tumbleweed and ALP we plan to follow Red Hat / Fedora / Debian and move from dbus-daemon to dbus-broker as it has a number of advantages and is what upstream is now focusing on. While one of the goals here is to provide the same user experience there will be a couple of changes that will likely require adjustments in a few packages. 1. tools such as dbus-send and dbus-uuid will no longer be installed by default on all systems (we have many use cases that will simply no longer need them and this follows other distro's). Currently the package dbus-1-tools exists and is required by dbus-1 but that will change maybe to a recommends so if you know your package needs one of these tools you can add the Requires there now, otherwise I plan to go through and look at debian and fedora to try and find any packages that need this requires before it becomes optional for dbus. 2. The symlink from /etc/machine-id to /var/lib/dbus/machine-id will no longer be present on all machines and software should be adapted to use /etc/machine-id from systemd rather then the dbus copy. Again this has already happened for Debian and Fedora so hopefully many upstreams have already adapted to this. I'll outline the plan / timeline below. 1. Currently - dbus-broker has been in the distro for quite some time and the dbus-1 package has already been split up and we are at the point of asking people nicely to start testing (instructions below), myself and at least several other people have already been testing this without issues. 2. In 2-3 weeks if I don't hear of any issues we will update the systemd presets to enable dbus-broker rather then dbus-daemon. 3. Unless someone indicates they really want to keep maintaining dbus-daemon and have good reasons for doing so I will make dbus-daemon uninstallable. 4. Once we have done the work to ensure that as many packages that use dbus-send and other tools require the tools package we will drop the requires for dbus-tools from the dbus package. Instead it will probably move to being a Recommends in one of the patterns so it still ends up on most users machines. Packages in OBS not configured for Factory

I have a newbie question about the decision about what targets a package in OBS are built for. I mean about the logic behind the choice of which to enable. I quite often find that packages are enabled for only 15.2, or only Tumblwweed. But it is quite common that the packages are not enabled for all current openSUSE/SUSE releases. For exampl (not a complaints against this ptroject! I just happen to be following the status of the tensorflow2 and it took me here as a unresolvable package): https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/devel%3Alanguages%3Apython/python-g… Why would a project in devel:languages:python not have Factory enabled? I know that in user's own builds, them might unfortunately do this. But in a place like devel:languages:python, I would have thought the all current openSUSE/SUSE targets would generally be enabled. If it is a 'I don't have time' thing, then I'm okay with that. No problem. I am curious if it is something else that I have just not cottoned on to. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Full Disk Encryption (FDE) wTPM Status: YaST doesn't support LUKS2 sufficiently for defining FDE out of the box, and Grub is very broken with LUKS2 (but work is ongoing to correct that). Meanwhile experiments continue to see if I can force kiwi to build a working MicroOS Desktop (GNOME) image with FDE out of the box. MicroOS Desktop KDE has had some community efforts to fix it, but meanwhile it has been weeks without a working installation media (YaST crashes to Ruby debugger). I received also the question, how the maintenance for the other architectures are handled. I gave the hint, that IBM did not replace their retired employee for Power (Fedora and openSUSE). This conference was also a success. Tumbleweed and Leap are blocked because of failing tests. (TW looking better then Leap seems YaST related) Newer LinuxONE is out since last week speak with Ino to replace the old hardware to new hardware? snapshots were blocked during the weekend as openQA for s390x was down DimStar: s390x is rolling again. Snapshot 0823 has been published (ahead of intel x86_64 thats on 0822). openSUSE:Factory - Build fail notification

Dear Package maintainers and hackers. Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have had problems for at least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no fix has been submitted. x86_64 architecture level requirements, x86-64-v2 for openSUSE Factory

Hi, there's been rumors and confusion about ALP raising the x86_64 architecture level to v3 which requires CPUs with AVX2 support and how this will affect openSUSE Factory. Sofar openSUSE Factory was supposed to be not affected but I think it makes sense to re-consider the current -v1 usage given what other distros are doing. Thus I would propose raising the x86_64 architecture level to x86-64-v2 for openSUSE Factory. v2 requires CMPXCHG16B, [SL]AHF, POPCNT and SSE4_2 (and the predecessor SSE extensions) but not AVX, BMI or FMA. Historically the 32bit multilibs built in the i586 tree kept using i586 in openSUSE Factory while for SLE15 we are using x86-64-v1 there as well given there's no support for Hardware not supporting x86-64 there. This is not a proposal to change that part, so the 32bit port should be unaffected (I notice opensuse.org refers to the 32bit port as i686 though) Comments welcome. I did kill pending jobs, @ttm ignored all failures and started publish. Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, This week’s been a little different from Tumbleweed as our regular release wrangler, Dominique, has been sick. Therefore I’ve stepped in and picked things up without our usual handovers which made things a little challenging, but I’m proud to be able to say we still released 5 snapshots in the last 7 days, including some pretty big changes. The 5 snapshots (0922..0929 excluding 0924 and 0927) released during this week brought you these larger changes among many many smaller ones: - bind 9.18.7 (Security and minor feature/bug fixes) - libreoffice 7.4.1.2 - nodejs 18 as the default - Mesa 22.2.0 - Kernel 5.19.10 - btrfsprogs 5.19.1 - mariadb 10.9.3 - gnome-shell-extensions 43.0 - libqt5 5.15.16 - perl-Mojolicious 9.27 In the next snapshot (0930) we expect the following fun stuff: - Linux kernel 5.19.12 - Nodejs 18.10 - distrobox 1.4.1 In the staging projects, we currently test submissions like: - distrobox as the default instead of toolbox for the MicroOS Desktop (Staging:C) - KDE Plasma 5.26 (5.25.90 staged, Staging:K) - LLVM 15: breaks all versions of PostgreSQL (Staging:M, almost ready) - bash 5.2/readline 8.2 (breaks tre and also broke tcsh but fix already with these in Staging:A) - fmt 9.0: Breaks ceph and zxing-cpp - gpgme 1.18: breaks LibreOffice - libxslt 1.1.36: breaks daps - util-linux 2.38.1: this also brings a massive package layout change, which will probably take some time to settle.
