Hi,
you have probably noticed that the SUSE virtualization developers have
been working on porting features from the kernel-source patches.xen
series to the upstream Xen implementation. This mostly works nowadays,
so at the SUSE Labs Conference last month, we agreed to finally get rid
of kernel-xen in Factory and instead use kernel-default with CONFIG_XEN
(the mainline option) enabled. I prepared a branch on github
https://github.com/michal42/kernel-source stable-noxen
which does exactly this. Test packages are building here:
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:michal-m:kernel-stable-noxen
The kernel boots and works on my machine, both on bare metal and under
the hypervisor (*), but there is some integration work to be done before
it can be submitted to Factory:
- The installer needs to cope with kernel-xen not available and choose
kernel-default. Something like the attached patch should fix it
(untested).
- perl-Bootloader: Right now, it creates a Xen multiboot entry if the
kernel is named -xen, otherwise it creates a regular linux entry.
Create both entries if the Xen hypervisor is installed?
- kernel-xen needs to be dropped from the patterns, but that's trivial
- We have been building a kernel-obs-build-xen package for the OBS
workers, which now disappears.
Of course, there is lot more work to be done in making the xen -> pvops
transition seamless in all corner cases. But that should not be a
barrier to pushing the kernel to factory.
(*) With the -default kernel, I do not see the kernel messages on the
serial console with
kernel /boot/xen.gz com1=115200 console=com1,vga
module /boot/vmlinuz-4.2.2-0.g980fcdb-default ... console=tty0
console=ttyS0,115200
while I see them with kernel-xen.

Hi,
during our Hackweek at SUSE I spent a day or two to improve my tool to
help finding the maintainer for software in Factory, which comes in
handy for bugzilla-screening (getting bugs to the right people).
You can use the tool at
http://maintainer.zq1.de/
You can give it command names, full filepath, or package names
(exact matches (including case) only)
If you want to run or extend it,
the code is all open on https://github.com/bmwiedemann/susepkginfo
and the databases can be fetched from http://aw.zq1.de/db.suse/
The actual maintainer information comes from OBS, so is always current.
Ciao
Bernhard M.

Hi list, kernel.org shows that the longterm kernel has been raised to
4.1.8 by now. Will Opensuse Leap 42.1 receive such 4.1.x updates or
will it stay at 4.1.6.x with the .x being backports or enhancements
from the Suse side and enterprise decided features from the opensuse
mother company? Thank you.

I can confirm this behavior but had it with Leap and Tumbleweed (latest snapshots) especially when using an USB hub or changing the keyboard right away (using another one than at install time - which triggered my scare about reprogrammed firmware).
My setup is/was: /boot - unencrpyted and then encrypted LVM with root, swap and home.
The behavior is: boots normally with normal keyboard function then, once you pass the grub: it is as if it is switched off, no corrent at all, numlock LED has not functionality when pressed, so it is as if it would be switched off.
To the O.P.: try if you have to stick in a different usb-keyboard. If I am right you will then be able to input the password to unblock LUKS. So this would confirm a but which you and me share :-) Other test would be: take of the keyboard from the hub and put it directly on one of the usb-outlets of your machine (that is if you use a hub). Then also I experienced you can overcome the block.

Dear all,
does for the upcomming version 42.1 a 32 bit version will be available?
Nor for milestone 1 I only can find a x64 version.
If 32 bit will be availalbe later on which stage of the development it
is to be expected?
Beta? RC?
Best Regards
Andreas

In Milestone 2 it still worked well, but now we don't even install YaST.
I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous.

Hi all,
Follow question an earlier thread about the suggested default font.
Has a final decision been made to switch to Noto Sans from Oxygen?
What about the fixed width font? Noto Sans has no monospace font.

Hi,
As package drops and additions should be mentioned on the -factory list ...
Adobe Flash Player has been dropped from both Leap 42.1 and Tumbleweed.
If you want to know why you are welcome to give a call to our legal
aide Ciaran, whose phone number is in the drop request.
Ciao, Marcus
