A new version and a new problem. I like these 'feature freezes'. :-/
When running makeSUSEdvd at the 'Installation Settings' I get the
partitioning, the Software and the Language.
Software tells me:
No catalog found at 'cd:///?devices%3d%2fdev%2fhdb'.
. Error: No proposal
I have recieved a mail from somebody who did it manually with
create_package_descr and got into the same problem.
What has been changed? What can be done to repair the situation?

Hi, I have a shiny new Intel Core Duo T2300 laptop with an nvidia geforce go
7400 graphics chipset. When I boot into Linux, there is a process in 'top'
that is showing a 90% average cpu usage and it won't stop. I cannot kill it.
There is an events/1 process that is always at 0%. I assume this is
something to do with the processor and perhaps acpi, since there are two
events processes and my processor has two cores.
Any suggestions on what the problem may be? I have tried:
1. running with the basic provided graphics drivers for nvidia and no change
2. running with the nvidia provided graphics drivers and no change other
than improved video performance
Jon.
Factory is updated on our server again - and is synced out to the
mirrors. We've seen a number of reports of about segmentation faults
in YaST with the factory tree. There were two problems:
* bad error handling in YaST
* Wrong release in distversion in the content file
The inst-source/content file should have "DISTVERSION 10.1-factory"
instead of "DISTVERSION 10.1-factory-beta" (the extra minus was the
problem). The second problem is fixed in the factory tree, the first
one will be fixed soon.
Therefore I advise to check that factory is updated before using the
tree before installation.

While loading the ipw2200 driver I get the message "unable to load firmware".
Do I need the non-oss AddOn.iso to get this driver running
or am I missing something else?
This is an RC3 install on a Dell 6000 Inspiron.

I love deadlines, especially the sound they make as they go whooshing by.
there are so many little bugs in RC3 that I don't know how
to enter them in bugzilla.
I will try to note here what I've seen and then try to enter
bugzilla.
summary:
I was unable to complete the RC3 installation with only the
first CD on cd and all the other elsewhere on hard drive.
1)try to install from mini-iso. failed. When asking for the
option "hard drive" was directed to eth0/eth1 and not to the
hard drive. Same problem from the first cd with the same
install system.
2)so install the minimal text install from first cd. with
some expert partitionning-SUCCESS :-)
3) I had previously made an instsource on disk with yast
from the 5 ISO and had the iso elsewhere
4) set the install source as hard drive, ISO and give the
Iso of CD1. When I made them with applydemtaiso, I used the
same name as RC1 (but with a 3). The first cd made well but
Yats was not able to find the others cd and I couldn't make
it accept the cd #2. tried to rename the ISO as disk1, 2, 3,
4, 5, with no better result. may be this iso works only with
dvd.
5) set the install source as hard drive, directory and setup
the inst-source previously setup by Yast. Almost worked, but
asked for the CD2. If one answer "jump", the install
continue (install was X base+kde base), it stops at each CD,
jump made it continue. At the end the install was not
complete. Seems like only the first package of each cd was
missing.
each time I connect to this install source, I'm said than
"signature check failed" (in english on a french install)
and asked if the message had to be displayed again. even I
said NO, it was always displayed again.
after a moment, I was no more able to join the install
source (usb drive). It was mounted, I could go in the
folder, but not use it with yast and it was deleted from
yast sources.
6) lately, after going out of yast I was let without
keypress display (I coul type but nothing was visible on the
display) - "reset" corrected the problem
7) may be related with the rest (but I don't think so), when
one have installed X, sax2 should be launched automatically.
when installing kde, stsrtkde should be set. at least the
user should be asked if he wants X and Kde, without having
to lauch sax2 and go in yast to enable kdm/kde
8) at the beginning of the install, I needed to go twice to
"personalise" and to expert mode to be able to safely
install in a spare partition and not on the main one & set
GRUB on the first sector of the partition (not to replace
the working install). the GRUB think is quite nicely done,
but the partitioning is confusing
9) why is it necessary to call DHCP at install boot? this
takes 1 minute per eth card (and I have two). This was given
as bug in bugzilla, but wontfix without real answer (can be
avoided by "dhcptimeout=0). If one install from cd, this is
unusefull and else it could be done after.
10) during the install, it is proposed to setup YOU. I was
unable to connect to the server and disclosed this part
11) the first time I tried to install X+kde, I got a segfault

Hello,
is this new, in RC1 - RC3 the irg_balancer don't start anymore on a "normal"
system, with smp Kernel no problems ?.
I remember some years ago, we have the same problem ;)

mit freundlichen Grüßen / best Regards,
Günther J. Niederwimmer
I reopened bug #155351 because it seems similar at what I have.
I couldn't install RC3 with boot.iso (mini-iso) because when
asking for hard drive I was asked for a net card in place of
a hard drive :-(
same with mini-iso RC2, but full RCI CD1 worked (asked for
the drive) partly (could not go more than two or thre steps
more, but found the hard drive (bur there it found RC3 and
don't like it)
so I can't install RC3 this evening - too bad.
tomorrow I will burn CD's :-((

I could'nt configure the online update, because is not defined the
version and the product, with the yast update tool I got: No products
to register
And if I execute:
/usr/lib/suseRegister/bin # ./suse_release -a
Product:
Version:
Vendor:
Dist:
Distproduct:
Distversion:
Baseproduct:
Baseversion:
How can I complete these options?
I have installed RC2
Thanks
The file /suse/setup/descr/packages.it is not available anymore. Is this
on purpose, or forgotten?
