Online and Update in YaST 10.1 RC2

There are now a few modules in Software which contains the words online or update. As there was already a lot of confusion concerning Online and System-Update, perhaps for 10.2 it's a good idea to think about new names or a new arrangement of this modules. update with YaST2 broken

I installed from factory right after rc1 was announced. YaST2 is still quite broken in it. Instead of installing again, I want to update. Someone a short time ago here posted http://dev-loki.blogspot.com/2006/04/how-to-use-smart-with-suse-linux.html and I thought I'd try that. Following the directions "we have to remove the existing smart channels for 10.1", I got a lot of confirmation requests, all of which I answered yes to. I couldn't figure out from the man page how to do the upgrade, so I managed to install smart-gui using rpm. I selected update all, but that took a very few minutes, updating maybe a dozen or so packages. In /etc/smart/channels are the following: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 187 Apr 13 22:24 packman-gwdg.channel -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 178 Apr 13 22:24 suse-apt-base-gwdg.channel -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 186 Apr 13 22:24 suse-apt-security-gwdg.channel -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 182 Apr 13 22:24 suse-apt-update-gwdg.channel -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 165 Apr 13 22:24 suser-guru-gwdg.channel Is that everything that needs to be there? I can't believe something supposedly "smart" could find so few packages to upgrade, with YaST2 nowhere among them, unless I've missed something. Obviously I have. KDE wallet manager should start automatically?

While defining my email accounts in kmail, it said that "KDE wallet manager is not available". Before RC1 (betaX) it would detect that I have checked the "save password" boxes and start automatically. Is this new intended behaviour or a new bug?

Separate license screen for AddOn?

Hello, installing RC2 (Factory tree) + the Extra FTP tree as addon, I have to confirm licenses two times: - at the start of the installation - after adding the AddOn Is this intentional? BTW: If yes, the license screen for the AddOn should have another title (like "AddOn License") - in the current state, it's a bit confusing [1] because it looks like the license screen at the start of the installation. (Should be changed for 10.2 - I understand that such a change in 10.1 would break translations.) Hi, FYI: I followed the link published recently to retrieve the Novell Client for Linux. As I found no better contact: Can anybody explain, why Novell did pack the directories without x-Bit (mode 0622)? That way I have no permission to read the Readme (NCL_disk/Readme/DE/nclinux_readme.txt). Is the lack of x-bit due to security reasons ;-) Regards, Ulrich

Cannot see my WLAN cards in YAST2

Dear list; I've installed 10.1 RC1 of OpenSuSE and just wanted to configure my WLAN network cards, one manufactured by D-Link, one by Netgear. But both of them don't appear in the network card configuration applet of YAST2. I'm running also SuSE 9.3 on a different partition, here I see both of the cards and also can communicate over them. The exact name of the D-Link card appearing in SuSE 9.3 is: D-Link AR5212 802.11 abg NIC Netgear is named in 9.3 as follow: Netgear WG311T Wireless PCI Adapter For D-Link, Ive already tried to copy the configuration file named ifcfg-wlan-id-00:0d:88:e5:fc:4e from the folder /etc/sysconfig/network of my 9.3 installation to the 10.1 RC1 installation. The success is, that the card appeares now and can be configured as known, but it is not working anyhow as I could see in the network interfaces of the information center. State of AVM driver -- documentation needed

What's the state of the ISDN-drivers from AVM? Delta-ISO problem for CD1

Hi, Until now I could apply the delta ISOs without problems. Now I cannot create the CD1. Whilst I'm looking forward to RC2 ...

I can't help noticing a bit of a problem. With a very aggressive release-schedule such as "every 2 weeks", chances of genuine bugs being 1) reported, 2) diagnosed and 3) fixed in that timeframe are very minimal. When I say "genuine" I discount typos, apparmor bureacrazy, and other minors that can be dealt with by level 1 support. I've got a couple of open reports (159731, 136742, 159727, 153585), and whilst an aggressive release-schedule is probably a Good Thing(R), it puts a lot of unnecessary strain on testers. For bugs/problems that aren't positively fixed before the next release, it's usually "please install <next release> and see if problem has gone away". Perhaps I'm just whining or venting some steam, but the aggressive release-schedule isn't doing me much good. /Per Jessen, Zürich
