Will the ifolder server be available as a package in the 10.3 release or
will it remain as an external package?

I wasn't what you can call happy when i found out this little software
was removed from factory (and even less so when after reopening it 3 or
4 time the bug was marked as private). No real explanation given.
This was by far the easiest and quickest way to get the Nvidia driver up
and running and i demand explanation. WONTFIX, build it in the BS. WTF!
there is no use to the package if its not right on the cd ...
Now if you don't wanna include it in the default selection this is
totally understandable, but why totally rip the package off ?

Hi,
I'm getting with this to the factory list as I don't want to bother
'regular user support' in the opensuse-ML.
Everybody nowadays is talking about how much better zypper would be
compared to rug/zmd.
Can somebody just in short tell me where the advantage is? Ok: it does
not use the zm-daemon, but this one is running quiet nice in 10.2
(didn't have to many probs yet.. or I'm not aware of them...)
On the other hand, with zypper, I always have to su just to install a
single package.
That's something I like about rug for example: I can add a catalog as
su, subscribe to it, and from there my users are allowed to grab
packages. Without knowing the su password. But they are not allowed to
install an rpm using rug (at least that was what my test showed me: it's
ok to INstall from a subscribed catalog, but nor from a local rpm)
And in overall, rug feels 'faster' for me compared to zypper. This
especially as zypper, whenever I do something like zypper lu or zypper
se, refreshes the catalogs. There seems to be no caching at all or it's
not working for me. and this makes zypper quiet slow. rug OTOH just
gives me the requested output. The fact, that an update can happen on a
repo just in the time between the last refresh, is quiet low. I admit,
in some cases this lead to unresolvable dependencies.
So: I'm looking forward to hear some other statements, maybe
corrections.

Hello!
Just installed the flash update via opensuse-updater on 10.2 with zen-free
packagemanagement.
Now one question:
Is it necessary to download all the metadata-stuff for several
Broadband-minutes, while the Applet already has the information, that there
is ONE update available?
If yes:
Is there a clever way to get rid of this necessity for future releases?
If no:
Any chance to change this behaviour before or for the next release?

Received the 10.2 boxed set and thought I would install today.
Hardware:
HP ML330G3 server with Smart Array 532 controller setup as a raid 5
disk.
When the install got to the reading the HD I got the following error:
"The partitioning on disk /dev/cciss/c0d0 is not readable by the
partitioning tool parted, which is used to change the partition table.
You can use the partitions on disk /dev/cciss/c0d0 as they are. You can
format them and assign mount points to them, but you cannot add, edit,
resize or remove partitions from the disk with this tool."
What tool can I use then if not parted? What other choices do I have to
install 10.2? It seems rather lame that when the driver is loaded it
properly shows the disk layout, and I am guessing that the driver works
properly, but I can't install because the current tool of choice has a
problem. The partitions also do not show up as a choice unless I use the
check box to show all partitions and then I'm not sure of what I am
looking at as there is nothing that remotely represents the partition
names of the disk.
Should I report this to bugzilla or am I just SOL (s**t outa luck) and
it will never support disks using the cciss driver? Replacing the
controller is _NOT_ an option unless you are willing to pay for the
replacement.
Another problem I ran into. When I cancel the install and dropped down
to the text mode install I tried to view kernel system messages and
received the following error:
"Sorry, linuxrc crashed at address 0xb7d64dee
linuxrc has been restarted in manual mode."
Currently running 10.0 without problems.

Hi,
I am trying to run OpenSuse-10.2 for x86_64 with an nVIDIA
GeForce Go 6150 graphics card, right now i do not have any nvidia
drivers installed and the graphics is suboptimal.
nVidias latest version of the driver for x86_64( 1.0-9746 ) does not
have GeForce Go 6150 in the list of supported cards for linux
drivers.
Is there anything I can do to run this card at 1280x800(as it does in
windows ) , instead of the bloated 800x600 (i guess) its running now.
Thanks
Digz

Richard,
I hope that this doesn't mean an abandonment of the effort,
as I see it if Ubuntu can build this in and is doing it at a developmental
level i.e. making it work without the benefit of someone else doing all the
hard lifting. Then our team should be able to not only duplicate Ubuntu's
work, but best it.
I have heard the complaint, about SUSE, that we take from the community more
than we give. I for one see it the other way, and this could be a shinning
example! I believe that if we do this and do it better than anybody else we
can gain a lot of ground in the area of school adoption and therefor overall
adoption.
I read a lot of articles and group minutes concerning education and I can
tell you that SUSE isn't in the conversation, this is because of all that
RedHat has done to support K12LTSP and schools in general. I want to turn
this around as fast as possible and adding LTSP5 to the distro would be a
huge first step. The next step would be to beat out Ubuntu in it's efforts to
take over from RedHat, which they are doing with LTSP5 and Edubuntu at a
quick pace. If Mark Shuttlesworth can put together an effective support
structure they will succeed.
Articles like this:
http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/linux_terminal_server
are everywhere .
We need to include this and we need press about it being the easiest solution
available. Novell has the support structure and the business power, what we
need are the solutions. I think the plans I have laid out regarding the
inclusion of educational administrative software will make it even more
pallatable for schools. SuSE is IMHO the best , what it needs is more
compelling reasons to use it!
Sorry about the soapbox. I am just getting tired of hearing "why are you on
SUSE we are all on k12LTSP and the SME-esmith server, it's so easy to use."
I have a school district less than 5 miles from my office that hosts
http://k12opensource.org/software.html
do they even mention Novell or OpenSUSE? No! They are also responsible for
educating other school district's in my state by providing the "professional
development" for our area.Which means they teach the installation and
configuration of these products. They get their lead from a guy named David
Trask who is teaching these products all over New England.
We can do better! With LTSP5, Centre, Moodle, OpenBiblio we can make OpenSUSE
the distribution of choice for Schools worldwide!
Please reconsider your recommendation and help further this cause,
James

On two upgrades from Beta2 (x86 and x86_64) to GM "netstat -r" displays
link-local and on the one fresh install of 10.2 (x86_64) link-local is
absent. I can't find anywhere in /etc/sysconfig or /etc/init.d where it
is created.

Sid.

Hi ,
We just finished a systems for the family with a MSI G965M mainboard.
The board installed well but came up with a VESA driver in stead of
"i810".
Yast seems not to be able to identify the graphics controller (X3000).
Is there some information that I can collect to input to a bug report
on Yast on this?
I understand that this chip is supported in Xorg 7.2. I changed the
driver to i810 in the xorg.conf file and from the Xorg.0.log it loads
the driver and it detects the 965 gfx chip.
Although I did change the Xorg.conf file manually and set the driver
to i810, the graphics performance does not seem to be great, so as a
second request, it would be nice if someone could share their
xorg.conf file with me to compare. (I get around 900 in glxgears)
Regards Birger
