Hi all! Next week I will move cronie[1] package to Factory, so it will replace old cron. If someone is against this step, please just write what's wrong. [opensuse-factory] syslog-ng update

Hello, I prepared updated syslog-ng packages with the close supervision of Marius Tomaschewski, the maintainer of the syslog-ng package. They are available in home:czanik in the openSUSE BS. I would like to see these packages included in Factory, to replace the ancient 2.0 syslog-ng, but MT seems to have disappeared (no response to e-mails in the past two weeks). Questions: - it works fine on my machines, but could anybody else test it? - what is the proper way to get syslog-ng updated in factory, if the maintainer seems to be unavailable? - I have now both 3.0 and 3.1 packages there, called syslog-ng and syslog-ng31. The ultimate goal is to include 3.1. Should I drop the current syslog-ng package and rename syslog-ng31 to syslog-ng? To keep it short (longer post in the opensuse list), I'm attempting to upgrade from 11.0 to 11.2 (32 bits) using the retail DVD, wich turns out it has only the x64 version. It offers to upgrade to 64 bit the 32 bit install: The architecture of the system installed in the selected partition is different from the one of this product" [continue] [cancel] I said "continue", then I checked the package list. As far as I could see, it intended to replace all packages with those corresponding to the 64 bits version. If this works, fine... but I was afraid, and I cancelled. Not because risking data (it is a copy), but because of possible waste of time. I thought I'd better RFC. Has anybody done this, an upgrade from 32 to 64 bits? Does it work? [opensuse-factory] wireless - iwlagn Microcode SW error

I repeatedly see "Microcode SW error detected. Restarting" in /var/log/messages when I connect to a 802.11n network. As side effect, connection speed drops to 1MBit/sec. Problem doesn't show up when connecting against 802.11ab. Hardware is Latitude E6500 with 2.6.34-9-desktop x86_64 kernel. Jun 10 08:13:40 .. iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. [opensuse-factory] Disk transaction performance - Phoronix benchmarking

Hi all. Phoronix has run distribution comparison [1]. I´m just wondering why disk transaction performance has Ubuntu 10.04 faster than openSUSE 11.3 RC1, when both distros uses an ext4 file system. I'am running 11.3RC1 on an Acer Aspire one D250 and I 'am using Knetworkmanager to setup my UMTS connection. This works fine in most cases but in about one of four times the KNetworkmanager applet shows "Netwerkverwaltung deaktiviert" ( translated : networkmanagement disabled) after a suspend to disk - resume cycle. After a reboot it works again as expected. [opensuse-factory] RFT: upgrade from 11.2 to M7 via wagon

All, in addition to "zypper dup", "yast2 wagon" is a supported dist upgrade path. (Or it was for 11.1 to 11.2) I don't have a 11.2 machine I want to move to factory right now, so I tried to upgrade a test machine from M3 to M7 via "yast2 wagon" and it segfaulted half way thru. (wagon is a gui tool to handle "yast2 dup") see http://en.opensuse.org/Wagon https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613820 The wagon version from 11.3 M3 first upgraded itself to M7 and then started the actual distribution upgrade. I don't know if the version in 11.2 does that or not. Since Wagon is a supported upgrade tool, it really needs to work before the general release, but I don't have a good way to test it. I marked the bug major, but if it also occurs with 11.2, I think it should be critical. And if it doesn't then likely it is just a normal bug for 11.3 at this point. Note: I'm not the author. Hello Mates, atm i'm testing the Build 0648. If i go to YaST/Software Repositories/Community Repositories i got: Warning: Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. Jens Koeke reproduced that and he also found the problem. In /etc/YaST2/control.xml it points to this http://download.opensuse.org/YaST/Repos/openSUSE_113_Servers.xml which doesn't seem to be there.
