[opensuse-factory] what it takes to get factory out

Hi, Just wanted to share some log file checking with you. I wanted to know how the rebuild this weekend worked out, so I checked the chain upto the last built package and the last time it built (often packages get build twice due to cycles). As you can see, it takes roughly 24h from start of the rebuild cycle on friday afternoon to the middle of the GNOME stack and roughly another day from the middle of the GNOME stack to the end of Ooo. But note that the list only gives you a rough idea as it's only looking at i586, but both architectures interact with each other, e.g. there is a 5 hour gap between gnome-vfs2 and libgnome. This is not the build time of libgnome, but the fact that x86_64 was a bit slower and finished libbonobui.2.10 only at 8pm and caused i586 to build 2.10 too - while i586's version was unchanged to 2.9, so it discarded it. But on x86_64 the value of %_libexecdir changed, so libbonoboui files changed. [opensuse-factory] Factory Kernel alsa support not modular?

Just wondering why the factory kernels have alsa set to be compiled in instead of modular. It makes it a real pain to have to recompile and set it to module just so we can try out the latest alsa-git. Is this a oversight as I don't recall previous factory kernels having alsa flagged to be built-in. [opensuse-factory] packages depending on xulrunner (1.9.0)

Hi, as most of you probably have noticed Firefox 3.5 is final since a few weeks and so is basically our mozilla-xulrunner191 package. According to coolo there are still a lot of packages building against or requiring mozilla-xulrunner190. I'd like to encourage all package maintainers to check if that can be changed to xulrunner 1.9.1. mozilla-xulrunner190 aka Gecko 1.9.0 will be out of upstream maintenance usually 6 months after the successor release which is only a few months into the 11.2 lifetime. The changes between 1.9.0 and 1.9.1 are not that big as they were with 1.8.1 to 1.9.0 so it's hopefully easier for you and I probably can assist if problems occur. Hello, The isos look like their busted again at the 422K mark (You may know this already) I wonder if a test can be put in to remove iso's less than 1mb in size. [opensuse-factory] Kdm allows gnome login when no gnome desktop exists

Hi, I noticed that gnome was offered as an option in kdm4's login screen and made the mistake of selecting it out of curiosity. This resulted in a blank screen with a mouse pointer from which there was no normal exit, except for switching to root console and init 3 then init5, unfortunately I have autologin enabled so that took me back to to gnome. The only way I could get out of this trap was to edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN setting to disable auto login and then get back to kde. This is a bug and I was wondering if anybody else has filed a bug against this, before I make one? [opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.2 deadlines ahead

Hi, As many may not read opensuse-factory carefully enough, I would like to post a little reminder on the roadmap: - Milestone4 will be released this week, or if impossible due to hackweek next week. - July 31st is end of alpha phase, there is a feature and version freeze for the base system. Meaning basically that we will have the major version of kernel, Xorg, KDE and GNOME ready to go into the beta phase. Patchlevel updates of these are different story. - August 6th I intend to do a Milestone5 release, this will be the release that every developer can verify his features against. With it being done, everything that can break things that are on the DVD (and that's a lot) is feature and version frozen. Note that even though it defines feature freeze, it is not yet a beta. It will be the worst milestone traditionally and as I said it's main purpose is to give developers something to fix their specific feature against and to give us the room to define string freeze not with the completion of the code. - Milestone6 will be released on August 20 and this should have then also include the most recent version of _all_ packages and the implementation of _all_ features. This would then also include string freeze after the features were reviewed and the texts proofread. - Milestone7 will then integrate the first translations and we can verify the features localized. - Milestone8 will be october 1st - after the openSUE conference and it should be nearly complete already, because - Friday October 9th will be the RC1 checkin deadline. With that we go into one month of testing unchanged code. This is something that was wanted from many after 11.1 changed too many things short before release. So everything after we hopefully can release as online update for the RC1 installations and factory NET and LIVE isos will continue to be released for testing installations. http://www.suse.de/~coolo/opensuse_11.2/ is the graphical version in case you want to look it up. [opensuse-factory] Regarding network manager and host-name

Hi! I have been unable to change the default hostname, etc. in openSUSE Milestone 3 while network manager is running. As far as I understand the network settings in Yast is unable to change host- names, domain servers etc. when network manager is running. This is clearly indicated by the warning dialog that pops up any time one tries to use network-settings module in Yast, while using the network manager. So one understands that all this (setting hostnames, etc.) can be set from network- manager. However, the default (wired) connection in the gnome-network-manger applet is locked and allows the changing of none of these values. There is no way to unlock these values from the applet GUI (there should be some button that when clicked asks for the root password, and unlocks these values, so that one can change them). As a result there is no easy way to set hostname, etc. in openSUSE 11.2 MS3. Some time back I changed the kicker menu/application menu to old style and cannot remember how/where and cannot find information on how to change it back to the "new" style.
