Upgrade to 15.6 problem when uninstalling one package

I just finished an attempt to UPGRADE my ASUS laptop from 15.5 to 15.6 and the result is a mess! During the installation process I did run into one problem (see below) where YaST was unable to remove one package and I had to choose the IGNORE option in order to proceed with the rest of the installation. This problem continues to persist. After installation and reboot the laptop was able to bring up the KDE Wayland desktop. Thunderbird 131.0-1.1, -- Arch pulled it from its repos -- it is a TESTING release only

All, Devs I see Thunderbird 131.0-1.1 is scheduled to install on TW. Just a few days ago we had a thread on Arch where that package was pulled from the repository because it is a Mozilla Testing Only release and wasn't intended to be generally distributed. See thread "thunderbird 131.0 pulled from testing" on 10/2/2024. The Arch packager was a bit surprised too. Just thought I would pass this along in case the same packaging a "testing" vs "full release" needs to be dealt with hear as well. If you update, your profile will be modified, but here you can downgrade to 130.x and start thunderbird --allow-downgrade to undo the changes to your profile (and pray it works...) -- David C. boinc-manager GUI no longer loads

I am not sure if this is a Boinc problem or a Linux/QT problem. I suspect the latter, but who knows? Cross-posted on BOINC forums at UC Berkeley. OS: Linux openSUSE 15.6 Kernel version: 6.4.0 QT version: 5.15.12 BOINC-manager command line: kdesu -u boinc /usr/bin/boincmgr Boinc is running as a systemd service, username boinc. That commandline has been working properly until minutes ago, after a kernel update and reboot. Hello, I strongly recommend that you upgrade to kernel 6.11.2 while leaving 6.11.0 in place. I think that kernel 6.11.2 is Linus's final ultimatum for nvidia users. There is no way out now..... MC on Tumbleweed doesn't check ~/.ssh/config for Host/Port or use public/private keys on first connect?

All, Patrick was having issues with ssh/sftp in MC on TW so I was troubleshooting on my TW install. The F1 "help" says mc will check ~/.ssh/known_hosts and use public/private keys. However, on first connection with mc, the password dialog is shown and a password is required. This doesn't fly if sshd/PasswordAuthentication is set to No to disable password auth. However on second connect, or reconnecting, to the remote with sftp, no password dialog is displayed. (key agent or something must be allowing it or some internal mc process) Should using the Left/Right menu "SFTP Link ..." command or connecting from the command-line in mc with: cd sftp://user@host:port/path/to use host public/private key-pairs on first connection? If so, is this a bug? Can somebody confirm on TW the behavior they see with mc. Thanks. If it is a bug I'll file it. Migrating Thunderbird personalized settings to another machine:

Hi, machine here openSUSE Tumbleweed 20241002. I would like to migrate Thunderbirds personalized/settings and mail accounts to another machine. Instead of going through and manually setting things up from default on the other machine. Is this a fairly common and straightforward procedure? Can you tell me how preferred to do this? The other machine is same TW snapshot also. -Best Regards

Tumbleweed - Where are SDL3_image, etc..

Devs, all, Tumbleweed provides the SDL3-devel package but doesn't list any packages for SDL3_image, SDL3_ttf, etc.. I would expect them in the same main TW repo along with SDL3-devel and SDL2-devel, SDL2_image, SDL2_ttf, etc. which are all there. Are the supporting SDL3_xxx packages named something different that I'm just not finding? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

All, The G03 (340), G04 (390) and G05 (470) Nvidia drivers build without further patching on the 6.11 kernel. Since starting the patch scramble last week, this looked to be the case, but had not tested since Arch has not yet put out the 6.11 kernel in its core repo. (openSUSE TW Beats Arch on 6.11 kernel -- should be the byline) The open-source driver for current cards and GPUs did need some patching and there was an open question whether changes to the fbdev header in the kernel would need a patch for the closed source drivers as well. Nope, all good! $ uname -r 6.11.0-1-default $ lsmod | grep nvidia nvidia_drm 65536 1 nvidia_modeset 1339392 3 nvidia_drm nvidia 19791872 83 nvidia_modeset ipmi_msghandler 94208 2 ipmi_devintf,nvidia video 81920 1 nvidia We haven't has a smooth minor version bump since 6.8 -> 6.9 (and none in memory before that for a long time).
